Nigerian rapper, Vector, better known as “Vector Tha Viper,” is getting ready to release his much-anticipated studio album, “Teslim,” and he has released the tracklist with fans to let them know what to expect.

The “Teslim” tracklist, which is scheduled to be released on November 11th, consists of 16 tracks.

It features South African rapper Nasty C, Wande Coal, producer Cracker Mallo, Seun Kuti, Seyi Vibez, Erigga, and more promising artists.

“Teslim“, which is an acronym for ‘The Energy Still Lives In Me’ will be Vector’s long-awaited and promised third studio album and will be the sequel to his 2019 project, “Vibes Before Teslim: The Journey To Self-Discovery”

In anticipation of the release, he created ‘Lafiaji Radio‘, a podcast channel, that was recently established on Cool FM and YouTube.

This podcast challenges the social-political norm of viewing African history or practices as uncouth in an effort to reawaken the African psyche.

Additionally, he recorded two tracks with Wande Coal and Cracker Mallo, titled ‘Mama Maradona‘ and ‘Insomnia.’

The project focuses on many parts of Vector’s journey; it begins with his search for self-awareness and moves on to the pivotal moments in his life that led him to this point and the beginning of this new chapter.

It is devoted to his father’s self-assurance and persistence and covers a wide spectrum of emotions, topics, and cognitive processes.

Numerous producers, including Mr. Kleb, SELF, Kel P, and Major Bangz, are involved with the project. Vector and Killer Kane are the album’s primary A&Rs, and Michael Manitshana of Mix House SA finished the final mix and master.

In 2007, the defunct Mo’hits Records were dominating the industry with its league of talented artists led by Don Jazzy and D’banj, the two founders of the label. The label released its compilation album which set a trend thanks to its success.

A compilation/Collaborative album comprises tracks, which may be previously released or unreleased, usually from several separate recordings by either one or several performers.

The term is used mostly in Nigeria to refer to albums put out by a Label featuring its artists or by two or more artists who are bonded by Friendship.

Mo’Hits- Cirruculum Vitae

Mo Hit Records was a label formed in 2004 by the duo of Don Jazzy and D’Banj upon their return to the country from the United Kingdom.

Thanks to D’banj‘s success in the music industry, the label started to expand, and other artists like Wande Coal, D’prince, KSwitch, Dr Sid joined the imprint.

In 2007, the label released its compilation album, “Curriculum Vitae“. Don Jazzy had first revealed plans for a label collaborative album in 2006.

Curriculum Vitae birthed some hit singles like “Why Me” (Remix), “Pere”, “Ololufe”, “Booty Call”, and “Move Your Body”.

Mavin Records- Solar Plexus

In 2012, after its was confirmed that Don Jazzy and D’banj had gone their separate ways, Fans hoped for reconciliation between the two. In the midst of this, Don Jazzy announced the establishment of Mavin Records on Twitter.

Solar Plexus is a compilation album released by Mavin Records on May 8, 2012. Produced entirely by Don Jazzy, the album comprises 13 tracks

It contains solo tracks from D’Prince, Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal, and Dr SID. “Take Banana” was released as the album’s lead single.

D’Prince remixed the song for his debut studio album Frenzy which he also released in 2012. “Omo Ga” was released as the album’s second single.

EME- Empire Mates State of Mind

Empire Mates Entertainment (abbreviated as E.M.E) was a Nigerian record label founded by Banky W and Tunde Demuren in 2002.

On June 18, 2012, the label released its compilation album Empire Mates State of Mind.

The album’s production was handled by Legendury Beatz, Sarz, Masterkraft, Cobhams Asuquo, Kid Konnect and Spellz.

It was the first collaborative album from the EME crew; featuring Banky W, Wizkid, Skales, Shaydee, Niyola, and Dj Xclusive.

It also features collaborations with X.O Senavoe, Rotimi, and Basketmouth. It the 22-track album produced hit singles like, “Baddest Boy”, “Dance for Me”, “Get Down Tonight”, “Ko Mo Le”, “Sun Mo Mi”, “Don’t Delay Me (Don’t Go There)” and “Change”.

YBNL- YBNL Mafia Family

Yahoo Boy No Laptop Nation, popularly known as YBNL Nation or simply YBNL, is an independent record label founded by Olamide in 2012.

In 2018, the label has dropped a collaborative album titled “YBNL Mafia Family”. 

The album houses 14 tracks done by Olamide, DJ Enimoney, Limerick, Temmie Ovwasa, Picazo, Fireboy DML, Yomi Blaze with additional collaboration from Kizz Daniel, LK Kuddy, Kranium, and Lil Kesh.

Pheelz, Killertunes, Cracker Mallo, and 2Kris all get credit for the production on the album. The album was instrumental in the popularity of Fireboy DML.

While 90% may be too much of an exaggeration, it’s in fact true that many ‘Marlians’ don’t even have Instagram, or any social media.

When he drops a new single, it’s not just for the Instagram fans or the guys using Company Wi-Fi to stream on YouTube. No. It’s mostly for the guys at the barbershops, at the local bars, waiting for the next ‘gbedu’ to drop and people who just pick up music from the roadside. So, while a lot of people were doing Soapy for Instagram views, a whole lot more are just having fun on the street, enjoying Naira Marley.

Now, let’s say, Naira Marley, who is a street ambassador is to drop a song that doesn’t stick, that isn’t catchy and that is easily disposable? Say, a song “Mafo“ that couldn’t compete with “Pawon” or “Bolanle” or even his own “Soapy” on the streets? What would you make of that?

Naira Marley is a street artist, and ‘standards’ ain’t a word on these streets. Everybody just does his stuff, his own way and they’re all making shit happen. That was before Zlatan and Naira Marley came along and raised the bar, though. Now any artist that wants to crack a street hit, can’t just do some rubbish, he’s gotta have a real concept or storyline that kicks. Naira Marley made sure of that by dropping “Opotoyi”, “Am I a Yahoo Boy” and “Soapy.”

But, there’s something about his new single with Olamide’s long-term producer, Young John, that just doesn’t seem right. The instrumental is the same ol’ same ol’, and doesn’t really move a nerve. Naira Marley goes back and forth on the track, with no real plan as to what end he’s dropping those lyrics. He even repeated catchphrases from other songs, like “inside life” on it, rendering the song to just an attempt to remake his magic work.

Young John has been low-key, for far too long. The last time we heard from him was “Ello Baby” when he feautured Kizz Daniel and Tiwa Savage. Truth is, Young John is one of those producers that if a big artist doesn’t have a song with, we ask why. We even ask how that artist became ‘big’. And his work on high tempo beats is like Thor swinging his hammer.

But, sometimes, you need more than a big artist and a big producer to make a big hit. This sure looks like one of those times!
