Football fans from Cairo to Cape Town are gearing up for a December like no other, as the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) prepares to take over Morocco.

The tournament kicks off Sunday, December 21, 2025. For nearly a month, six Moroccan cities Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, Agadir, Marrakech, and Fez—will burst into colour, noise, and national pride until the final whistle on January 18, 2026.

And this year’s lineup? A continental buffet.
Twenty-four nations have secured their spots: Morocco (hosts), Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Algeria, DR Congo, Senegal, Egypt, Angola, Equatorial Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire, Uganda, South Africa, Gabon, Tunisia, Nigeria, Zambia, Mali, Zimbabwe, Comoros, Sudan, Benin, Tanzania, Botswana, and Mozambique.

With the stage set, the group fixtures tell their own story—fresh rivalries, old grudges, and a December packed with football drama.
Below is the full journey each team must navigate in the group stage of AFCON 2025.

The remaining clip shows Iwobi opening what appears to be a journal and was posted 10 weeks ago. However, the comment section for this post is currently disabled.

During the final match, the Fulham midfielder played for 79 minutes before being replaced by Alhassan Yusuf for the last 10 minutes of the game.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria faced defeat in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 on Sunday, February 11, as Ivory Coast, the host country, clinched a 2-1 win.

Although the Super Eagles scored first in the first half of the game, the Elephants of Ivory Coast managed to equalize in the second half and later secure a second goal.

The match unfolded at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

With Ivory Coast lifting the trophy, they take home $7 million, while the runners-up, Nigeria, receive $4 million. The two losing semi-finalists, South Africa and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, each receive $2.5 million.

Following the defeat, singer Teni, known for her unwavering support for the Super Eagles throughout the competition, was visibly distraught. In a video shared via her verified Instagram page, Teni is seen crying uncontrollably, expressing her deep disappointment and sorrow over Nigeria’s loss in the AFCON final against Ivory Coast.

After Cote d’Ivoire secured victory over the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the AFCON 2023 finals, a flurry of reactions poured in from fans and celebrities alike.

One particularly amusing exchange occurred between Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck and Ghanaian rapper Black Sherif. Black Sherif shared a comical anecdote, revealing that following Ghana’s loss and elimination from AFCON 2023, Odumodublvck and Blaqbonez facetimed him to poke fun at his team’s defeat. He further joked that they even instructed a jeweler to craft the “cheapest piece” ever made for him.

He wrote: Blaqbonez called me on facetime to laugh at me when my country’s Black Stars was sent home, the guy couldn’t stop smiling. Odumodu was on Facetime the next 3 days telling the Jeweller to make me the cheapest piece he’s ever made, And na me call am for the Jeweller o! You want me to shut up? I’m going to bed.
Former Chelsea and Roma coach Jose Mourinho has offered praise for the officiating standards at the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The seasoned Portuguese tactician, known for his astute observations in football, admitted his preference for watching the African tournament over European football. He highlighted Africa’s honesty in officiating, particularly emphasizing the fair use of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

Mourinho applauded the impartiality of VAR decisions at the AFCON, noting that they are not swayed to favor wealthy or renowned teams.

In a bold suggestion, Mourinho proposed that the headquarters of VAR should be established in Africa, recognizing the continent’s commitment to integrity in football officiating.

“I have watched AFCON more than European football. They are simply teaching us to be honest. In AFCON VAR is used exactly the way it should be used,” Mourinho said per the CFC News Report.

“They do not use it to help the money magnet teams or famous teams. This is why you saw the best out of every team . Because they know VAR is not hired behind the scenes but is for everyone. They listen even to their Players if the Ref missed something and go check. In Europe if I as a coach or a player plead with a ref to go check something, it is a red card for doing that. The headquarters for VAR needs to be in CAF.”

In addition, The African Cup of Nations ends today with a match between the hosts, Cote D’Ivoire, and the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
