After a protracted negotiation process to secure a contract termination agreement, PSG have finally parted ways with Galtier. He only stayed in the dugout at Parc des Princes for one season and had one more year left on his contract.

Although the 56-year-old was successful in winning the Ligue 1 championship last year, he faced criticism after yet another early Champions League departure. Galtier’s trial in France is upcoming, and he might receive a three-year prison sentence due to claims of discrimination at his former club Nice. The move comes at a challenging time for Galtier.

“At the end of the 2022-2023 financial year, Paris Saint-Germain and Christophe Galtier have decided to end their first-team coaching contract,” read a club statement. “The club would like to highlight his professionalism and his commitment, which enabled the Rouge & Bleu to win a historic eleventh French Championship title as well as a Champions Trophy.”

PSG are now set to appoint former Barcelona and Spain manager Luis Enrique. The 53-year-old will return to management for the first time since leaving his role with La Roja after his team’s shock 2022 World Cup exit.

Luis Enrique formerly managed Barcelona from 2014 to 2017, where he memorably won the treble in his first season in command.

PSG will be hopeful that Luis Enrique can lead the team to further success, notably in the Champions League. Despite significant investment in recent years, the French team has failed to win Europe’s most prestigious award.

According to reports, PSG have sacked head coach Christophe Galtier, with Julian Nagelsmann set to be drafted in as his replacement.

PSG football adviser Luis Campos informed Garthier of the club’s decision on Tuesday morning, according to Le Parisien, after which a formal announcement would be made. Gaultier remained in the spotlight at the Parc des Princes for just one season despite winning the Ligue 1 title in 2022/23 before losing to Bayern Munich in the round of 16 of the Champions League. Galtier became PSG’s seventh permanent manager after signing a two-year deal last summer since Qatar took over in 2011. The Qatar properties see Henry as the perfect candidate for the role of Nagelsmann’s assistant as he previously held the same position alongside Roberto Martinez in the Belgian national team.

Galtier isn’t the only one to make it past the Parc des Princes exits this summer. PSG have also confirmed Messi’s departure, with the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner eyeing a return to Barcelona as a free agent.

He has also been closely linked with moves to Saudi Arabia and the MLS but has yet to announce where he will play next season. Sergio Ramos is also leaving when his contract expires at the end of the month, and Neymar is said to be pushing for a move after being targeted by PSG extremists outside his home.

In regards to replacing Christophe Galtier as head coach at Parc des Princes for the upcoming season, Jose Mourinho has rejected any offers from Paris Saint-Germain.

Galtier is under a lot of pressure at PSG after watching his side lose in the first round of the Champions League, thus extending the squad’s fruitless quest for European success.

PSG has struggled in the Coupe de France as well. And while another Ligue 1 championship is imminent, it hasn’t exactly been as compelling as hoped or anticipated.

Mourinho, on the other hand, has at least partially restored his image after things swiftly went south for him at Manchester United and a stint at Tottenham broke his outstanding streak of winning at least two championships at every club he had been at since being hired by Porto in 2002.

The Portuguese arrived in Roma in 2021, and they ended the previous campaign by winning the inaugural Europa Conference League championship. His squad is currently playing in the semifinals of the Europa League and is still in the running to finish in the top four of Serie A and qualify for the Champions League.

That and the fact that Mourinho’s long-term ally, Luis Campos, has taken on a football advisor role at PSG over the last 11 months has led to speculation of a reunion in the French capital.

Campos worked with Mourinho as a scout and analyst at Real Madrid after coaching against him more than 20 years ago in Portugal.

Since then, he has done a lot of work in France and put together the teams for Monaco and Lille, who won Ligue 1 in 2017 and 2021, respectively. These two teams are the only ones to have won the title outside of PSG in more than ten years.

But, as far as Mourinho is concerned, PSG need to get in touch if they want him.

“If they looked for me, they didn’t find me, they haven’t reached out to me,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

Galtier, who has a contract with PSG until 2024, is publicly adamant he is staying put.

“I plan to be the coach of Paris Saint-Germain,” he said recently.

“We are working with Luis Campos on building the squad for next season. On the changes we wish to bring to improve the team, to have more variety in our game, be that through a different setup or having a better balance. We have been working on that in the last few weeks.”

Kylian Mbappe has admitted his next professional objective is to win the Champions League and has pledged to do so with his current employer Paris Saint-Germain.

Mbappe came so close to leaving PSG for Real Madrid last summer, but after a year of unpredictability on and off the field, he is still the focus of many rumours.

The Frenchman’s current contract, which runs until 2024 but has a 12-month extension option, is about to expire, and Real are still interested in bringing him to the Santiago Bernabeu soon.

Mbappe has since claimed that he is still adamant about helping PSG win the Champions League, promising to return Europe’s top honour to the Parc des Princes.

“My next goal in my career is to win the Champions League once and for all, I think,” he told Tout Le Sport. “I’ve already played in the final, the semi-finals, the quarter-finals, the round of 16… I have everything, but I still need to win. That’s all I need in my career.

“I want to win the Champions League at Paris Saint-Germain, I’m from Paris and I have a contract. So it will be at PSG.”

Mbappe’s comments come after his public dispute with PSG over his image usage in a season ticket promotional video. He insisted the club was not ‘Kylian Saint-Germain’, but manager Christophe Galtier labelled the whole thing a misunderstanding.

The 24-year-old has had another outstanding season, scoring 31 goals and dishing out eight assists in 35 appearances across all competitions, but it has not been enough to elevate PSG once again.

Compared to their customary standards, PSG’s lead in Ligue 1 standings is just six points, and they were easily eliminated from the Champions League by Bayern Munich in the round of 16.

Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier has assured fans that there is ‘nothing to worry about’ after Kylian Mbappe limped out of the team’s 3-1 win over Montpellier on Wednesday.

The superstar forward managed just 21 minutes, in which he missed both a penalty and its eventual retake before clutching his hamstring and walking down the tunnel to join injured teammate Neymar on the treatment table.

With the first leg of PSG’s Champions League, round of 16 matchups against Bayern Munich set for February 14, fans were naturally concerned about the health of one of the best players in the world. Galtier, though, does not think there is any cause for concern.

“Kylian took a blow behind the knee and on the muscle,” Galtier explained.

“Sergio, when falling, hurt his adductor,” Galtier added. “We think it’s not serious. He preferred to come off and not take any risks regarding the discomfort.”

After the break, PSG was ultimately victorious thanks to goals from Lionel Messi, Fabian Ruiz, and 16-year-old Warren Zaire-Emery, retaining their five-point lead atop the Ligue 1 standings.

PSG play Toulouse in the league on Saturday before hosting rivals Marseille in the Coupe de France on Wednesday, in which Mbappe is expected to be a serious doubt. A trip to Monaco is also planned before PSG resumes their pursuit of European glory.
