Christian Eriksen has been speaking about the “stupid moment” when he had cardiac arrest, claiming that a significant health crisis has not altered him.

Midway through his nation’s opening Euro 2020 match, the Manchester United midfielder passed out. His life was spared by the fast thinking and immediate action of teammates and medical personnel.

Eriksen has now made a spectacular comeback to competitive play, and at the 2023 Laureus World Sports Awards, he was recognized as having made “The Comeback of the Year.”

The 31-year-old says he is grateful to be alive but that he will not let circumstances outside his control define who he is and what he does.

Eriksen said when collecting his award in Paris: “It has been an incredible one-and-a-half years. It changed my life for the worse but the doctors and medics and team-mates got me back. I was lucky nothing serious happened. It happens, unluckily.

What I learnt from this is that it gets emotional for me when I’m around my family. I’ve been myself. I was myself anyway, only for that stupid moment. I haven’t changed my daily routine. I’ve enjoyed my life, my wife, and kids more. That’s what’s different.”

Eriksen has previously said of an incident that sent shockwaves around the world: “I felt a small cramp in my calf and then I blacked out. When I woke up from the CPR it was like waking from a dream. I don’t remember a thing from when I passed out. I’m on my back when I wake up. I feel them pressing on me. I struggled to breathe – and then I heard faint voices and doctors talking.

I’m thinking, ‘This can’t be me lying here, I’m healthy’. My first thought is that I broke my back. ‘Can I move my legs? I can move my toes. It’s not until I’m in the ambulance that I realise I had been dead. I’m thinking, ‘Keep my boots, I won’t play again’. I tell my fiancée Sabrina the same – ‘I’m not going to play again, no way’.”

Due to Serie A regulations, Eriksen was released by Inter after his fall. However, he later played again for Brentford in the Premier League and signed on as a free agent with United in the summer of 2022. Eriksen has been implanted with a defibrillator that detects abnormal heartbeats and responds to them.

Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has disputed claims that their failure to perform in a hostile environment led to their team’s elimination from the UEFA Europa League at the hands of Sevilla.

In the first leg of the quarterfinal last week at Old Trafford, the Red Devils enjoyed a comfortable 2-0 lead, but late in the game they twice put the ball in their own net to equalize the match and send it to Spain.

The Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan was a nightmare for the men of Erik ten Hag. Youssef En-Nesyri of Sevilla was able to score a goal that was practically handed to him in the first minute due to errors in focus by David de Gea and Harry Maguire. The goalkeeper then hesitated, which allowed Loic Bade’s header to lob him.

As a difficult night for United, Sevilla won 3-0 on the night and 5-2 overall as De Gea lost control of a high ball over the top and let En-Nesyri another simple finish.

After the game, Eriksen attempted to justify United’s unfortunate outcome in an interview with BT Sport.

“A lot of things happened. We didn’t really get in the game from the first minute. I think we tried, but today, we gave them a lot of opportunities to finish us off. I think we lost a bit of coolness in the build-up,” the Dane said.

“They were high pressure and we didn’t deal well with that. I think we made more mistakes than we normally do and personally or not, I think the whole team today, we couldn’t catch up on the mistakes the team made.

“I don’t think it’s anything with that [the atmosphere], take away where we play, if we give away goals as we did today, we’ll lose. It’s nothing to do with the atmosphere, I just think our own game was not strong enough.

“I don’t know why that was. It’s football, sometimes you have good days, sometimes you have bad days and today was one of those. We tried to do everything we could to avoid it, but we couldn’t and we have a game in four days for revenge.”

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has revealed that influential midfielder Christian Eriksen is nearing a comeback from injury.

The Danish international has been sidelined since January after being tackled by Andy Carroll during United’s FA Cup victory against Reading at Old Trafford.

Eriksen was previously expected to be sidelined until the end of April, potentially into May, but has recently shared positive anecdotes on social media about his progress in rehabbing the injury.

Although the 31-year-old is unlikely to face his old team Brentford on Wednesday, Ten Hag acknowledged in his news conference before the game that Eriksen is back in full squad training and will soon return to offer some much-needed talent in the midfield.

“Not for tomorrow but he’s returning on the pitch. He’s returned to team training today, so we have to see now how quickly he can make the progress,” the Dutchman said.

“Two quality players,” he continued when asked about Eriksen’s return coinciding with Casemiro’s four-match suspension ending. “The midfield department, games will be decided always in midfield, when you miss two quality players it’s clear. “But you have a squad, if you don’t have them you still have to win.”

The Dutchman then turned his attention to Arsenal, who are currently leading the Premier League and are still on track to win their first title in 19 years.

“We have to deal with it well but Arsenal, all the time their squad is totally available,” he jibed.

It’s not fully accurate to say that. Even though the Gunners have done rather well this season in terms of player availability and fitness, they have just recently welcomed £45 million summer signing Gabriel Jesus back after a significant layoff, while Emile Smith Rowe missed some time due to groin surgery.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Marcel Sabitzer will likely play against Crystal Palace on Saturday after joining the club on deadline day.

On the last day of the transfer window, after it was revealed that Christian Eriksen would be sidelined for a number of months due to injury, United moved to sign Sabitzer from Bayern Munich for a direct loan without an option to buy.

Sabitzer is one of just four midfielders available to Ten Hag alongside Casemiro, Fred, and the more forward-thinking Bruno Fernandes due to the season-long absences of Donny van de Beek and Scott McTominay.

“Of course, he did only one session but you can see he’s a very fit player and I didn’t have different expectations coming from Bayern Munich, German, their fitness is always good,” Ten Hag said. “I think he is ready to play.

“I think he’s a really smart player and I think we gave him some guidance but he knows what to do, he knows the job.”

Ten Hag added that United must do better against Palace, who they recently fell to a late 1-1 draw against after Michael Olise netted a stoppage-time free-kick, and went as far to ‘demand’ a better showing.

“We know a lot [about] them, they know a lot about us, we were really unhappy with our game at Crystal Palace so I demand a much better performance than in London, so we have a good chance to win.”

Marcel Sabitzer will wear the No15 shirt after signing the midfielder on transfer deadline day.

Following the injuries to Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek, the Austrian came on loan from Bayern Munich.

United announced Sabitzer’s squad number on Thursday, with the No15 most recently worn by Andreas Pereira.

In recent years, a number of players who were beloved by the fans have worn the jersey, most notably Nemanja Vidic, Jesper Blomqvist, Karel Proborsky, and, during their early tenures in the team, both David Beckham and Paul Scholes.

The good news for Sabitzer is that number 7 is now available at Old Trafford following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, and number 24 is also available.

9 is occupied by Anthony Martial, 10 by Marcus Rashford and 18 by Casemiro.

If none of those strike Sabitzer’s fancy, he may choose to wear number 13 or number 15, the latter of which was last worn by Andreas Pereira prior to his departure to Fulham last summer.

It then becomes a matter of whether Sabitzer wants to take on a number of 40 or higher because United have a number of other numbers filled by youth players on loan.

Manchester United have announced the loan signing of midfielder Marcel Sabitzer on loan until the end of the 2022–23 season.

The Red Devils were forced to enter the market late in the January transfer window as it was revealed that Christian Eriksen will be out for up to four months with an ankle injury.

According to sources, the club began talks with Sabitzer on Tuesday about a possible loan move to Old Trafford for the duration of the season and were able to complete the deal before the 12 pm deadline after gaining an extension.

Speaking to the club’s official website after completing the move, Sabitzer said: “Sometimes in life you have to make quick and important decisions. Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has addressed Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from the team for the first time in public.

After criticizing the team in an interview with Piers Morgan earlier this month, Ronaldo and the Red Devils mutually decided to end his contract.

The 37-year-old accused Ten Hag of lacking respect after he tried to substitute Ronaldo late into their 2-0 win against Tottenham in October. The forward refused and ended up leaving the stadium before full-time.

Speaking in his first interview since Ronaldo’s outburst, Ten Hag was keen to move on from the saga.

Denmark will aim to emulate their emotionally charged run to the Euro 2020 semifinals in Qatar, minus the drama of Christian Eriksen’s horrifying collapse as they announced their official 21-man squad from the 26-man squad for the Qatar World Cup.

In choosing 21 of the 26 players who will represent Denmark at the World Cup in Qatar on Monday, coach Kasper Hjulmand showed loyalty to the players who contributed to recent successful World Cup qualifying and Nations League campaigns.

The final list must be submitted to FIFA by Monday, November 13, with the World Cup scheduled to begin on Nov. 20, and the last five players will be announced following the final round of European matches before the competition.

Eriksen made his international comeback in March after suffering a heart attack during Denmark’s opening game of Euro 2020 and the Manchester United midfielder has been named in Kasper Hjulmand’s final squad for the tournament in Qatar.
