Taking to her X (formerly Twitter) account, Shola expressed gratitude to everyone who has supported Champz’s debut project, Champion’s Arrival, while addressing the growing number of performance invitations the young artiste has been receiving.

She explained that the decision to decline show bookings is intentional and rooted in Champz’s age and personal growth, stressing that his development remains the top priority at this stage.

“We want to say a Big Thank you for the countless show invitations and for considering Champz. Due to his age, we’re prioritising development over live performances for now, and have had to decline show bookings. We truly appreciate the interest and understanding,” she wrote.

The announcement has been met with praise from fans and industry observers, many of whom commended Shola Ogudu for prioritising her son’s well-being and long-term growth over early exposure and commercial opportunities.

Champz recently drew attention with the release of Champion’s Arrival, sparking excitement about his potential. Still, his mother’s statement makes it clear that his journey will be carefully guided and paced.

At just 14 years old, rising Nigerian rapper Champz, the son of global icon Wizkid, is already carving out a bold identity of his own. And now, he’s finally letting fans in on the sounds and voices that shaped his breakout project, Champion’s Arrival.

During a candid chat with Glitch Africa, the young artist peeled back the curtain on his creative process, revealing that his debut EP is rooted in a blend of UK rap grit and Afro-fusion rhythm. He didn’t hesitate when asked who influenced the project most.

“These are the main inspirations for this EP,” he said, naming J Hus, Asko, Nines, and Clavish as the four artists whose styles guided his approach to flow, cadence, and storytelling.

Their fingerprints, he explained, sit heavily on the project’s sonic architecture, from its moody beats to its street-shaded narratives.

Rather than leaning toward his father’s Afrobeats dynasty, Champz is steering his craft toward Afro-swing and UK drill genres known for raw expression, minimalist production, and an unmistakable London edge. It’s a quiet declaration that he’s forging a lane that is distinctly his.

His appearance on Glitch Africa comes on the heels of a record-breaking moment that shot him into the spotlight: Champion’s Arrival hit Number 1 on Apple Music Nigeria just five hours after release, making waves across several countries and pulling in over a million streams within the first 24 hours.

With early milestones stacking up, a growing fan base cheering him on, and a clear artistic direction anchored in global rap influences, Champz is fast emerging as one of the most exciting young voices shaping the future of African and UK-inspired rap.

Champz – Champion Sound Lyrics

Champion sound
No worry, we dey for you 100

Real niggas know issa champion sound
No intro this time around
It’s straight to the business
I hate cutting through the corners
Look at the phone and it’s mumsy calling me

She knows I’m a champion
There’s smoke on the mountain
Try enjoy 1da Banton
Shout out to the OGs in the game
But it’s time to pass on the baton to the champion

I’m gonna mash up the scene, bare anthems
It’s Champz widda Z, in the cut
And you know what’s happening
I got zero competition, not cause I’m good
Cause I’m not competing oh
If you wanna hate
Hate, that’s your cup of joe
It’s 2Am and I’m glued to my notes
And I don’t act cocky, there’s a long way to go
There’s a long way to go

Issa champion beat and I’m throwing a tantrum
Very soon, I’m gonna buy my champion mansion
Built for a bad man
They try compare all talk no action
They talk on the net and expect a reaction (no)
I can never break my code
To address allegation not my boat
I was born for the mic if you know then you know

Real niggas know issa champion sound
No intro this time around
It’s straight to the business
I hate cutting through the corners
Look at the phone and it’s mumsy calling me

She knows I’m a champion
There’s smoke on the mountain
Try enjoy 1da Banton
Shout out to the OGs in the game
But it’s time to pass on the baton to the champion

I’m gonna mash up the scene, bare anthems
It’s Champz widda Z, in the cut
And you know what’s happening
I got zero competition, not cause I’m good
Cause I’m not competing, oh
