When brothers Kingsley Okorie and Benjamin James, better known as The Cavemen, unveiled their third studio album, Cavy in the City, the release landed with the weight of a cultural event rather than just another release.

The cover art alone told a story: bathed in warm sepia tones, Kingsley sits like royalty on a carved wooden throne while Benjamin stands tall behind him beneath a graceful archway. It’s more than a photo; it’s a metaphor for balance, unity, and the timeless dialogue between tradition and evolution that defines their artistry.

The Cavemen have always been torchbearers of highlife, and Cavy in the City feels like both a homecoming and a leap forward.

Across 13 tracks, the brothers paint with sound—groovy basslines, live horns, soulful harmonies, and rich percussion all blending into a lush, immersive experience.

This is highlife reimagined for the modern ear: deeply rooted in African storytelling, yet dressed in the polish of contemporary production. It’s joyful, nostalgic, and unmistakably The Cavemen.

This new chapter builds on the legacy of their earlier albums, Roots (2020) and Love and Highlife (2021)—two projects that didn’t just revive highlife but reintroduced it to a generation raised on Afrobeats. Along the way, they’ve also teamed up with Show Dem Camp and Nsikak David on No Love in Lagos, further proving their versatility and commitment to collaboration.

If those albums were statements of intent, Cavy in the City is a full realisation a record that celebrates the genre’s heritage while exploring its limitless possibilities.

Known for their live instrumentation and spiritual chemistry, the Cavemen make music that feels organic—crafted, not manufactured. Every guitar riff and drum tap carries emotional weight, transforming the mundane into the musical.

While they’ve kept details about guest appearances under wraps, fans are already buzzing with excitement, certain that this album will once again blend intimacy and exuberance in the way only The Cavemen can.

Listening to Cavy in the City feels like journeying through modern African life, its love stories, its chaos, its laughter, and its longing. It’s the sound of Lagos nights and ancestral whispers, of drums echoing through time. Whether you’re navigating traffic, dancing at a wedding, or reflecting quietly on life, this album provides a soundtrack that enriches rather than merely entertains.

But perhaps the true brilliance of Cavy in the City lies in what it represents. In an era when many chase global validation by drifting from their roots, The Cavemen take the opposite route, proving that authenticity is the new modern.

They honour where they come from while showing where African music can go. With this album, they don’t just keep highlife alive they remind us that it never really died.

Cavy in the City isn’t just an album. It’s a love letter to heritage, a testament to craftsmanship, and a declaration that Africa’s oldest rhythms still hold the power to move the world.

Nigerian highlife torchbearers The Cavemen are set to return with their highly anticipated third studio album, Cavy in the City, arriving on Thursday, October 31, 2025.

The announcement came on Thursday, October 23, alongside the reveal of the album’s striking cover art, a visual feast that perfectly mirrors the duo’s timeless sound.

In the artwork, brothers Kingsley Okorie and Benjamin James are pictured in a lush, garden-like setting. Kingsley sits regally on a patterned wooden throne, while Benjamin stands poised behind him beneath an arched entryway.

The image, bathed in a warm sepia glow, marries the richness of tradition with the pulse of modern life a visual metaphor for the balance the brothers have long championed in their music.

Cavy in the City follows The Cavemen’s previous critically acclaimed projects, Roots (2020) and Love and Highlife (2021), two albums that redefined contemporary Nigerian highlife and introduced the genre to a younger audience hungry for authenticity.

Their unique blend of Igbo highlife, jazz, and folk, delivered with soulful harmonies and rhythmic precision, has cemented their place as torchbearers of a golden sound reborn.

While the duo has kept details about the tracklist and guest appearances under wraps, excitement is already surging among fans and industry insiders.

Many expect Cavy in the City to expand their storytelling canvas — weaving tales of love, hustle, and cultural pride while embracing the sounds and sentiments of the modern African city.

As the release date draws near, Cavy in the City is shaping up to be one of 2025’s most anticipated African albums, promising a soulful bridge between heritage and the ever-evolving soundscape of today’s Afrobeats generation.

Nigeria’s celebrated highlife revivalists, The Cavemen, are charting bold new territory with their latest single, “Gatekeepers,” featuring British-Gambian rapper Pa Salieu.

The collaboration stands as a rich blend of tradition and modernity, weaving lush African rhythms with the raw intensity of UK rap.

On “Gatekeepers,” The Cavemen. deliver what they do best: soulful highlife harmonies, rolling basslines, and rhythmic guitar riffs that evoke the golden era of West African music. Their timeless sound forms the heartbeat of the record, grounding it in warmth and cultural authenticity.

Pa Salieu, known for his gritty flow and poetic lyricism, brings an edge that cuts through the track with precision. His verse, layered with reflections on struggle, resilience, and self-belief, adds a striking contrast to The Cavemen’s melodic calm, resulting in a piece that feels both rooted and revolutionary.

Lyrically, “Gatekeepers” explores freedom, courage, and the strength to defy convention, themes that resonate deeply with both acts, who’ve built their careers by breaking boundaries and redefining genres in their own right.

The song is lifted off The Cavemen’s forthcoming studio album, Cavy in the City, which is set for release in just a few days. The project marks a new chapter for the duo, as they expand their sound beyond the borders of highlife into a more global Afro-fusion space.

At its core, “Gatekeepers” is more than a collaboration; it’s a meeting point between Lagos and London, a cultural bridge linking West African soul and UK street poetry.

With this release, The Cavemen and Pa Salieu have crafted one of 2025’s most compelling cross-continental moments in music.

Opening with the track “THAT FEELING,” CKay adopts a carefree, nonchalant persona, conveying a desire for casual connections and lighthearted encounters.

However, this contrasts with the more profound longing for a meaningful and committed relationship in the track “RIDE OR DIE,” showcasing CKay’s emotional complexity.

‘EMOTIONS‘ blends infectious melodies and compelling rhythms with CKay’s signature poignant lyrics, offering listeners an immersive experience.

Collaborations with artists like Olamide, Ty Dolla $ign, The Cavemen, and Nora Fatehi add variety and richness to the project, each guest bringing their unique flair to the mix.

With its twelve tracks, ‘EMOTIONS‘ offers a comprehensive journey through love, loss, and personal growth. CKay’s ability to craft songs that resonate deeply with listeners is evident throughout the album, making it a must-listen for fans of Afrobeats and emotive music.

The nomination list for the Headies 2022 has been released and established artists like Davido, Burna Boy, and Olamide alongside new entrants like Portable, Ayra Starr, and BNXN have gained nominations on the list.

On Tuesday 1st of March, 2022, the Headies awards founder and Executive Producer Ayo Animashaun announced that the 2022 Headies will be leaving the shores of Nigeria.

The 15th instalment of the biggest prize in Nigerian music is set to hold on 4th September 2022 in Atlanta Georgia.

The announcement sparked debate and reignited interest in what is likely to be the most keenly contested Headies award yet.

Unsurprisingly, Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Olamide have all scored nominations at the 2022 Headies Awards. Their nominations shouldn’t come as a surprise to music fans as they all released materials in the year in view and enjoyed wide success.

The big four as they are collectively referred to are joined on the nomination list by other artists whose music stood out in the year in view.

Rapper, Ycee has taken to social media to complain over the absence of rappers from the lineup of Rick Ross Live in Lagos COncert.

The Maybach Music Group executive returned to Nigeria for the show tagged ‘Rick Ross Live In Lagos’ after his first trip in 2012.

He had stormed Lagos for the Summer Jam Fest 2012 concert.

He also seized the opportunity to shoot an alternate video for his ‘Hold Me Back’ song which immediately went viral.

He took to a slum in Lagos where he was seen spraying children dollars.

The Lagos concert took place on Thursday at Eko Hotel and Suites will feature popular artists including Davido, Tiwa Savage, Mayorkun, DJ Obi, The Cavemen, Fave, and DJ Yin among others

However, Rapper, Ycee wasn’t too pleased over the absence of rappers on the lineup.

Stating that his complaint wasn’t about him as he hasn’t put out rap music for quite a while, he called out the decision for organizers to host Rick Ross who is a rapper in Lagos and yet not include Nigerian rappers on the lineup.

According to him, this is one of the factors why Nigerian rappers are switching their sound and doing more of singing instead of rapping.

“Bruh this ain’t even about me cos I haven’t put out rap music in a while but how do you have a Rick Ross show in Nigeria and not have ONE SINGLE NIGERIAN RAPPER ON THE LINE UP???
And tomorrow you wanna come on twitter and ask why rappers are switching genres ????”

In another tweet, he berated Nigerian rappers who would see things like this and not complain, saying that they think everything is just about bars and ability.

“But una rappers no go talk

He also pointed out that things like things are some of the factors that have been hindering the growth of rappers in the Industry.

“Imma enjoy the show tho just pointing out how there are so many factors stacked against the average rapper in this current musical climate”

A fan advised him that he could have made one surprise entry and performance nobody will stop him, and that he could have performed Jagban which will make Rick Ross bow to him.

The rapper in response laughed at the statement.
