Caiphus Semenya responds to claims that he demanded 50% of the royalties that the deceased AKA owed him for using a few of his songs as samples on the Mass Country album.

After learning that the late celebrity had sampled a number of the iconic artist’s tunes, the insider told Sunday World a few weeks ago that the legendary musician demanded to be paid.

“The old man felt that AKA disrespected him and his work because he had previously stolen his intellectual property but later apologised and promised to fix his mess. Sadly he did not,” a source revealed.

“So, when he heard that he sampled this one again without permission, he understandably blew his top and demanded royalties.” the source added.

Caiphus, in a recent podcast interview, refuted the assertion and clarified the situation.

“It was sorted out,” laughed the legendary who spoke to Nkululeko’s YouTube podcast.

“I started Semenya Music when I was 32 years old. John Levi helped me put my publishing together. Since then I have never, not once negotiated a song,” he clarified.

Semenya attacked the journalist who wrote the piece on the 50% royalties.

“He just runs and writes nonsense, it’s rubbish,” added the legend. He added that he was not involved in the negotiations of royalties and they were sorted out previously.

“His lawyers have never seen me, so who am I going to demand the 50% from?”

Reports and headlines claiming that Caiphus Semenya knocked on the late AKA’s grave infuriated him.

“I’m not like that. If he lacks respect, I was raised by people who taught me respect. When someone loses a loved one, you sympathise with them. And the way this boy died hurts me. There is no song that’s worth his life. What’s 50%?”

Caiphus Semenya, a celebrated jazz musician, claims compensation from the deceased hip-hop singer AKA because, without authorization, the late rapper sampled well-known songs from the legend’s two albums.

In a letter to Sony Music, Kiernan AKA Forbes’ record label, Caiphus demanded payment or faced repercussions.

A deepthroat revealed Semenya’s response, as reported by Sunday World, after he learned that AKA had unlawfully sampled a section of his previous song, “Diary.”

“The old man felt that AKA disrespected him and his work because he had previously stolen his intellectual property but later apologised and promised to fix his mess. Sadly he did not,” said the tipster.

“So, when he heard that he sampled this one again without permission, he understandably blew his top and demanded royalties.”

“He apologised and asked how he could fix it. We spoke about it and he promised to fix things. I told him that the song was nice because music doesn’t have to be in one style.”

The legendary drummer expressed his disappointment at learning that AKA had stolen his song’s lyrics once more by weaving some of them into Diary without his consent.

“I got calls from some people who said they were doing a compilation of his songs and enquired whether there was an agreement.

“I told them [that] we must not fight; we must not make a big fuss about it. I told them our lawyers must handle it.”

He continued by expressing his optimism for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

“You see, some guys ask for permission, but some don’t ask for permission. These guys are young, they have to learn that this is business, and they have to do things the right way. They must do what is correct,” said Semenya who demands 50% of royalties.
