Lavia, a £58 million summer transfer from Southampton, didn’t make his Chelsea debut until after the international break in September because he wasn’t fully healthy when he arrived at Stamford Bridge.

Lavia was unfortunately forced to return to the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury in practice, and sources stated the 19-year-old could not be able to make his eagerly anticipated debut until beyond this month’s international window. Chelsea will play again on October 21 against Arsenal after taking on Burnley on Saturday.

As Pochettino has stated, Lavia is still a long way from being fit, so it now seems like he will have to wait even longer for his first appearance in a Chelsea jersey.

“I don’t believe [Lavia will be back after the international break],” Pochettino admitted. “I cannot tell you but he is still not running. After the international break he will not be back.”

Lavia’s situation was disappointing, but Pochettino reassured Chelsea supporters that Moises Caicedo, another costly midfielder, should play against Burnley.

In the closing minutes of Chelsea’s victory against Fulham, when Mykhailo Mudryk went down with an injury, Caicedo hobbled out, but Pochettino anticipates both players to contribute against Burnley on Saturday.

“Both in the squad,” Pochettino confirmed. “We will decide whether they are available from the start or not.”

Caicedo struggled at first in Chelsea but rapidly seemed to have settled comfortably, winning Pochettino over in the process.

“Of course, it is about time,” Pochettino said of Chelsea’s record signing. “It is a player you already know from the Premier League but with no pre-season. In a situation where he was not involved for a few months. It is normal he needs time to settle in a new club.

“Even if you are happy and everything is perfect, always it is difficult but the situation that happened in the summer and now it is like pre-season.

“We are happy, we think he was really good against Fulham. Unlucky a little bit because he now needs to go on international duty and play and travel, and it is always difficult to go to South America. It doesn’t help the situation but we need to accept and try to help him in a different way.”

On Sunday night while the team was returning from Burnley, an incident occurred on the Aston Villa team bus.

The team led by Unai Emery was on its way back to the Midlands after defeating Burnley 3-1 at Turf Moor. The incident happened at junction 10 of the M65 highway, west of Burnley’s downtown, according to BBC Sport.

According to reports, ‘significant damage’ was done to the windscreen of the team bus after a brick was thrown at it.

Supt Melita Worswick, of Lancashire Police, stated: “This incident occurred when a great deal of traffic was leaving the area following the football match between Burnley and Aston Villa.

“It is nothing but good fortune that the brick didn’t cause more damage, or result in somebody being seriously injured or even killed.”

Burnley added in their own statement: “Burnley Football Club is saddened and dismayed to learn about an attack on the Aston Villa team bus at junction 10 of the M65 after today’s match.

“Having spoken with Villa we are relieved to hear nobody was hurt in the incident.

Speaking after the game, the tactician said: “Unfortunately he is injured again. A problem in the same position, he said to me, as in the final of the Champions League. It’s a pity because he had recovered well but now we have lost him for a time so we have to reflect, talk to the doctors, see what happened.

“He has to be relaxed, recover, and come back. He was feeling good and playing good in the first minutes. It depends on the magnitude of the injury but will be a few weeks out. Maybe it was my mistake [to play him] but when he is injured after 15-20 minutes it is not something wrong [with the decision] – when it is after 65 minutes it is the fatigue of the muscle.”

Uncertainty surrounds the length of the Belgian’s absence, but given that he was only sidelined for 24 minutes the last time, Guardiola won’t rush the 32-year-old back.

A timetable for the player’s comeback will be provided after tests are performed to determine the severity of the injury, although it might be some time before the midfielder is back on the field.

Manchester City began their Premier League title defence with a convincing victory over Burnley, thanks in large part to Erling Haaland’s impressive performance in front of goal.

Haaland, who scored 52 goals in all competitions for City last season, wasted no time in getting on the scoresheet this season. He opened the scoring just 185 seconds into the match with a stunning left-footed strike after pouncing on a header down by Rodri from Kevin de Bruyne’s cross.

The 2023–24 Premier League schedule has been finalized, and the opening weekend features a tantalizing match between Chelsea and Liverpool.

When the two teams square off on August 13, both teams, especially Chelsea under new manager Mauricio Pochettino, are hoping to move past their previous poor campaigns.

The first Monday Night Football game of the season will feature Manchester United at Wolves in the opening weekend’s penultimate game.

Vincent Kompany has ended rumours of a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur by signing a new five-year contract with Burnley.

The former Manchester City manager was recently mentioned in connection with the open managerial position at Tottenham following Antonio Conte’s departure from the team, but he has now committed his long-term future to Burnley.

Speaking to the club’s official website after signing his new contract, Kompany said: “Burnley and Turf Moor felt right pretty much from the start – so it also feels right to sign for the next five years.

“Together with the fans we have made Turf Moor a fortress again and continue to look forward to the future and the job of making Burnley better with every step.”

In his first season in command at Turf Moor, Kompany led the Clarets to the Championship title and the Premier League.

They can surpass the 100-point mark in the league with a victory at Cardiff on Monday. They are now one victory away from doing so.

Club chairman Alan Pace also was keen to express his delight at Kompany’s new contract, saying: “We are ecstatic Vincent has signed a new deal!

“He is the perfect fit for how we all see Burnley Football Club moving forward.

After speaking with former Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa, Mp3bullet reported on Friday that Dyche has been chosen by the Everton board as Frank Lampard’s replacement.

Dyche is Toffees owner Farhad Moshiri’s third permanent manager since taking over the club over seven years ago.

Dyche, one of the Premier League’s most regarded and experienced managers, will be assisted by former Nottingham Forest winger Ian Woan as Assistant Manager, ex-England international Steve Stone as First-Team Coach, and Mark Howard, who will assist with sports science. All three employees previously worked for Dyche at Burnley.

Dyche told the club’s official website: “It’s an honour to become Everton manager. My staff and I are ready and eager to help get this great club back on track.

“I know about Everton’s passionate fanbase and how precious this club is to them. We’re ready to work and ready to give them what they want. That starts with sweat on the shirt, effort and getting back to some of the basic principles of what Everton Football Club has stood for for a long time.We want to bring back a good feeling. We need the fans, we need unity and we need everyone aligned. That starts with us as staff and players.

“Our aim is to put out a team that works, that fights and wears the badge with pride. The connection with the fans can then grow very quickly because they’re so passionate.

A 2-0 loss to fellow strugglers West Ham on January 21 kept Lampard’s team in last place with 15 points after 20 games, two points outside the safety zone.

The Merseyside team has been struggling under the former England international; their most recent league victory came in a 3-0 home victory over Crystal Palace in October.

After managing Derby County in the second tier in 2018/19 and Chelsea from 2019–2021, Lampard was signed by Everton in January 2022. However, Dyche will now be responsible for stopping the club’s descent into the Championship.

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright said: “Kevin [Thelwell, director of football] and I spent some valuable time with Sean over the past few days and he quickly convinced me that he has exactly the right attributes to make himself a great Everton manager – and a man who could inspire our fanbase. And Farhad felt the same when he met him, too.”

On February 4, Everton will host league-leading Arsenal in Dyche’s debut game in that position.
