Bright Okpocha, better known by his stage name Basketmouth, is a Nigerian comedian and actor who has drawn harsh criticism for launching his comedy tour during the election year.

The famous comedian announced the details of his tour around Europe and the United Kingdom with the subject “unprovoked” planned to run from the 12th to the 26th of February, despite the fact that Nigerians are preparing for the elections that are scheduled to take place next month.

Fans of the comedian criticised him for holding a UK tour during a crucial time for Nigeria in response to the message that was shared online.

One unhappy supporter, Moppie penned: ”25th Feb in Hamburg? Na im be say you no go vote. Why nau”

Another fan wrote, ‘‘Great Ingenuity displayed. However, you should be in Nigeria on 25th February casting your votes. That is patriotism. Don’t play indifferently in this election. Encourage patriotism by voting and leading others too. Please.”

Another fan wrote that “Any celeb that won’t vote during this election, I can never take them seriously, please if u want d good of this nation stay and vote before making any trip.”

INEC Did Not Check With Me

In response to criticism, Basketmouth revealed that despite the general election, he has been holding his event every February for the past 12 years and won’t change that practice.

He claimed that because the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had not consulted him, it was only reasonable that he keep hosting his show.
