Beyoncé Gets Emotional Watching Blue Ivy Record Lines For ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’

In an emotional behind-the-scenes moment shared by Good Morning America, Beyoncé was moved to tears while recording her lines for Mufasa: The Lion King, after hearing her daughter, Blue Ivy, perform her lines for the film.

Both mother and daughter lend their voices to characters in Barry Jenkins’ upcoming Lion King prequel, which explores the origin story of Simba’s father, Mufasa.

The narrative unfolds through flashbacks, with Rafiki recounting Mufasa’s tale to Simba and Nala’s daughter, Kiara. Blue Ivy voices the role of Kiara, while Beyoncé voices Nala, alongside Donald Glover as Simba.

“Seeing Blue as Kiara and hearing her voice come out of that character,” Beyoncé said in the footage, visibly emotional. She paused, laughter and tears taking over as she added, “Give me a second because I still… I can’t believe that’s my baby.”

She went on to describe the overwhelming moment, saying, “It was really hard to focus and do my job after that. So I was like, ‘Wait, hold up, guys, you gotta give me a second, I have to digest that!’ I’m so proud of her.”

Blue Ivy also shared her excitement about her film debut, praising the supportive environment on set. “Everybody that’s a part of this is so helpful and supportive. The director, Barry, is a really sweet person and he tells me ways that I can improve in my lines. And he’s very supportive of me and tells me in the nicest way possible, and I feel like so does everybody else,” she said.

Reflecting on the significance of the role, Blue Ivy added, “This is just a great experience for me, and I’m really happy for girls that look like me, all around the world, to watch this movie and hear and see themselves in it.”

This heartwarming moment highlights the special bond between Beyoncé and Blue Ivy, as well as the pride they both feel about contributing to such a groundbreaking project.

Tagged as the biggest award an artist can get, Wizkid made history that night, winning alongside his Nigerian colleague, Burna Boy, who won in the Best Global Music Album category.

At only 9, Blue Ivy took home the award for the best music video category for Beyoncé’s “Brown Skin Girl” video. Blue received a writing credit for the aforementioned song alongside Wizkid and Saint Jhn.

To highlight the once in a lifetime moment, Beyonce on Wednesday, March 17, shared a video montage on Instagram which featured a timeline of all 28 of her own Grammy Award wins, the most wins by any female artist, as well as a special tribute to her firstborn daughter, Blue Ivy, who won her first Grammy at the just concluded 2021 Grammy awards show.
