After losing the court case against Blaq Diamond, Ambitiouz Entertainment issued a statement. Ndumiso Mdletshe and Sphelele Dunywa, an Afro-pop duet, won a victory on Monday after a lengthy legal struggle that lasted more than six months.

The court found that the record company was not required to remove their song due to a copyright stalemate. The record company declared on Tuesday morning that it accepted the verdict but will still appeal.

“In light of the court order Ambitious Entertainment accepts it with the utmost respect and will comply accordingly. However, we would like to inform our valued supporters that we will be diligently exploring the available legal avenues to appeal the judgement. We believe it is important to exercise our right to respectfully challenge the decision and seek further clarity.”

Ambitious Entertainment declared in summary that “We wish to underline that starting on June 15, 2022, Ambitious Entertainment will not be enforcing any copyright strikes against any works or music written by Blaq Diamond, as directed by the honourable acting Judge Wanless. In this regard, we intend to support the court’s ruling,”.

“Nevertheless, in line with the court judgement, Ambitious Entertainment will continue to raise copyright and ownership disputes against works authored by Blaq Diamond prior to 15 June 2022. This also includes the song Qoma. We are committed to addressing these disputes within the framework of the legal process.”

Blaq Diamond exudes delight after defeating Ambitiouz Entertainment in court. After a protracted and contentious legal battle with the well-known music duet, the Johannesburg high court ordered the record company not to remove their songs from streaming services and YouTube.

The court order states: “Having read the papers filed on record, heard counsel, and considered the matter, the following order is made; pending final determination of Part B attached to this application, any person or entity acting in concert with the respondents, are hereby interdicted from removing and or deleting the account of the applicants’ YouTube channel.

“That it is ordered that the second respondent be interdicted from raising any copyright/ownership dispute against works of the applicants with any other digital streaming platform (DSP) inclusive of the first respondent, Spotify, iTunes, Deezer, authored by the applicants from June 15, 2022, pending final determination of Part B.”

Nigerian afrobeat singers Burna Boy, Rema, BNXN, and American rapper Lil Durk are currently topping the list of most popular music acts on the music streaming platform, Spotify.

The newly launched Spotify Charts, featuring popular music in Nigeria, has revealed some interesting data around the artists, tracks and albums that are trending for the week.

According to the Spotify data chart, BNXN’s “Italy” (feat. Blaq Diamond) peaked at #4. “FYN” by Rema and AJ Tracey is the highest new entry this week while “Big Thug Boys” by AV climbed an impressive 46 spots to #68.

“Omo Ope” (feat. Olamide) by Asake has been on the Top Songs chart for 5 weeks straight.

For the top artist chart, BNXN retained his spot as the longest-reigning artist on the chart, with an admirable 5-week stretch.

The biggest winner on the Top Artists chart is Wurld, moving up by 89 spots to get to #83. AJ Tracey claims the spot of the highest new entry on the Top Artists, at #52.

Interestingly, the 7220 album by Lil Durk ranks right on top as the highest new entry on Top Albums. International star Drake has the most spots on Top Albums in Nigeria with “Certified Lover Boy” at #13.

“SoundMan Vol. 1” by StarBoy is the biggest winner, moving up by 21 spots at #118 while WizKid’s “Made in Lagos” Deluxe Edition has been on Top Albums the longest, for a whole 5 weeks.

Blaq Diamond are a South African Afro-pop duo from Ladysmith KwaZulu-Natal and here is how Blaq Diamond are redefining amapiano sound across the African diaspora

They met in 2010 on a school trip where both participated in a music cypher on the school bus.

They signed to record label Ambitiouz Entertainment, releasing their debut album Inqola (2017), which became their first iTunes number one.

Amapiano is a style of house music that emerged in South Africa in 2012, Amapiano is a hybrid of deep house, jazz and lounge music characterized by synths, airy pads and wide percussive basslines.

The band first gained prominence for their single “Ibhanoyi” released in 2019, which received “SAMA Record of the year” 

Their second studio album Umuthi (2020), spawned two platinum-selling singles “Ibhanoyi” and “Love Letter.

In 2010, they met while on a school trip where they participated in a rap cypher in the school bus and began spending more time together, participating in school functions which earned them recognition in the community and local surroundings.

The two decided to move to Johannesburg for better musical prospects which proved difficult at first as, not knowing anyone, forced them to get jobs to earn an income that was used to sustain their musical ambitions.

In early 2017, the duo signed a record deal with Ambitiouz Entertainment and began to work on the debut album.

On June 19, their album’s lead single “Sthandwa” was released followed by the second single “Emzini kabab” which was accompanied by the music video.

In the winter of 2017, they released their debut album Inqola to critical acclaim.

The album is a fusion of Afro-soul with Maskandi and mbaqanga fusion which they made sound modern and youthful.

At the 24th South African Music Awards, they received two SAMA Awards nominations.

In 2018, they performed for the first time in Pietermaritzburg invited by a local event group to perform in a fashion show.
