Either you blow or you don’t blow out here this place is just ridiculous to stay relevant after a hit, you make every effort to follow it up with more hits therefore, everyone is working harder on their follow-ups.

However, not everyone has the good fortune to score twice. Long term, there are still a few one-hit wonders. Artists that have had national hits but have had little success with any of their subsequent work.

We present ten of the most well-known one-hit wonders of the 20th century on this list. These are artists that even young people from the indomie age will be familiar with or at the very least have heard of.

1. Bigiano (Shayo)

What do we call this if not a waste of talent? One of 2008’s biggest successes was produced by Bigiano and is a party song called “Shayo.”

Bigiano is a name that you’re familiar with if you listened to Nigerian music in 2008. the “Shayo” groove, too. But regrettably, that was his sole success.

2. Jodie (Kuchi Kuchi)

Whatever becomes of Jodie?

Oh my god, oh my god, kuchi kuchi yes. Who in that year didn’t know that song? That song has the power to calm you down at any time. Although it has a spiritual and uplifting vibe, the song is about love. In 2011, it became popular.

However, a lot of people aren’t even familiar with her name, much less another song. I could add, regrettably.

3. Chuddy K (Gaga Crazy)

Go gaga is insane, and she is, indeed, crazy. One of the top club bangers of 2012 was this tune. However, that was the last we heard of Chuddy K. in some way.

The fact that you choose Chuck D as your stage name shouldn’t have a significant impact on your professional life. Or ought it to?

4. Lynxxx (Fine Lady)

God bless Wizkid. Lynxx might not have had a successful single in the end.

With WizKid providing the vocals, “Fine Lady” was undoubtedly a smash at that point. The wedding-themed music video was also unique.

However, Lynxx? He might still be developing “the hit single after the hit single,” who knows!

5. Di’ja (Awww)

Numerous new stars emerged in the industry in 2014. New members of YBNL and Mavins had the potential to blow the industry away. Of them, Di’ja was one.

Everyone heard her say, “There’s nothing I won’t do to make you smile, oh,” and it had been almost seven years. She was never able to execute a follow-up. Anyway, I’ve heard that she now has two or three children.

6. Viktoh (Skibi Dat)

Prior to “Skibi Dat,” Viktoh was well-known for his role in Lil Kesh’s wildly successful “Efejoku” song as well as for being YBNL’s good boy.

He doesn’t even know what he wants to accomplish, though. Rap, sing, or act like a good boy? Unlike, say, Lil Kesh, for example, his music has not wowed listeners throughout the years.

Only “Skibi Dat” was successful. After that, nothing he did improved.

7. Sugarboy (Hola Hola)

He hasn’t done anything after his modest success “Hola Hola,” which came out in 2016. His entire CD was awful. It didn’t help to steal a tune from an impending work of art. What’s up Sugarboy, sef?

8. Wale Turner (No)

Once upon a time, Wale Turner was a wonder child who many believed would take native hip-hop and make it popular.

Although “No” was somewhat impressive. A successful hit that is both catchy and worthwhile. For approximately a year, it was able to keep the person in certain chats. He then began to slowly float away into nothingness.

9. Victor AD (Wetin We Gain)

Victor will tell you he is most definitely not a one-hit wonder if you ask him today. But Victor AD has been working on a better hit than the trending “Wetin We Gain” for years. And unsuccessfully, if I may add.

The majority of his efforts have fallen short of the standards he set for himself, and many of them are just plain bad. I have no regrets about included him on my list.

10. Pepenazi (Illegal)

In any case, that is the Olamide effect. Olamide can deliver a hit for you, but are you going to rely on him constantly? Definitely not.

Pepenazi is now known as “the guy who did illegal that year” after all these years. Oh, that’s horrible.

That’s all for today, though. Please share your thoughts.

Nigerian Award-winning artist David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed who the “Dami Duro” beat was initially meant for.

The DMW boss made this known when he was speaking about his 2011 hit song during an episode of the ‘Afrobeats: The Backstory’ documentary.

The documentary which centres on the rise of the Afrobeats genre premiered on Netflix on Thursday. It was produced by Ayo Shonaiya.

The song ‘Dami Duro’ is the second track on the singer’s debut album, ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ (2012).

Davido said he initially had no intention to record a song with the beat.

He Said:

“People that were in the studio when I recorded Dami Duro were Wande, Bigiano, Shank and Shizzi. I started the beat to Dami Duro and then I was actually making the beat for Sexy Steel,”

“This is facts cause I had a studio, I had like the best studio at that time. So I was making it for Sexy Steel. I met Shizzi in Wande’s house when he was working on Wizkid’s album.”

It can be heartbreaking to see artists with a lot of prospects make the wrong moves and ruin their chances of making it big in the industry, and here are the Nigerian musicians that are likely to return in 2022 based on their recent social media posts.

Various musicians have gained entry into the Nigerian music landscape and have been unable to maintain the success they received.

Nigerian musicians that are likely to return in 2022

Bigiano

In a time when the Nigerian audience lived and breathed pop music, Bigiano released arguably one of the biggest pop songs, Shayo.

The song instantly became a certified jam and Nigerians rocked to it for a long time.

Bigiano is a gifted singer with an unparalleled ability to make hit songs.

After Shayo, the singer went ahead to drop his album Shayo Master which contained hits like Iwofa, True Story, and more.

However, Bigiano failed to keep the fame he achieved.

He even went away from the music scene and claimed he was not prepared for the lifestyle of an artist.

Despite having so much potential, Bigiano fell short.

Rayce

Talent is not hard to recognize and Rayce clearly has a lot of it. This was not hard to see as the astonishing singer and songwriter rolled out scores of jams including Roll, Wetin Dey, and others.

Rayce, who also operated as a producer under the name Admire Beatz, had two good albums to his credit before he mysteriously disappeared from the music space.

Many of those who believed in Rayce and presumed that he was in the music industry to stay ended up being disappointed as Rayce was unable to make a success out of the opportunity he had.

Eva Alordiah

A fierce female rapper who used to jump on beats and murdered them with ease, Eva was on top of her game. Within a short period of time, Eva was considered to be one of the best rappers of all time.

Eva has recorded and released an EP, two mixtapes, and an album. She collaborated with several acts including, Sasha, Muna, Mo’cheddah, Terry Tha Rapman, and many others.

Along the line when Eva’s fan base was enjoying enormous growth, Eva slipped and experienced a decline.

She was nowhere to be found and all the buzz she had managed to create vanished.

Jesse Jagz

Jesse Jagz is your favourite rapper’s favourite rapper.

A younger brother to one of Nigeria’s best Hip-hop acts (M.I), Jesse Jagz has revealed his musical dexterity to music lovers.

The rapper has battled with his record label Chocolate City many times and has suffered spells that have affected his career very negatively.

He has had hit songs like Nobody Test Me, Bend Down Low, and The Greatest among several others.

Jesse Jagz has been through a lot and has never been able to position himself as a distinguished act.

He has failed, on numerous trials, to establish a solid career so far.

Cynthia Morgan

Cynthia Morgan is yet one of the best Dancehall musicians Nigeria has ever seen. Her lingua game is on steroids and this has been evident in her hit songs such as German Juice, Don’t Break My Heart.

She has a unique style and has the qualities of a Reggae artist.

She was able to catch the attention of the audience with her sensual lyrics and provocative videos.

Although Cynthia Morgan failed to live up to the hype. People lost interest in her and her music when much was no longer heard from her.

Phenom

One of the young acts who many tipped to become one of the best Hip-hop acts, Phenom was a talent to behold.

Phenom quickly became a known force in the world of rap when he featured on different projects.

He has since worked with artists like Wizkid, Mo’cheddah, Jaywon, M.I. Some of his hit songs include Murder, Shukubambam.

Phenom suddenly became inactive in the music industry.

His name stopped being influential and he lost out in the process of becoming a superstar.

Dammy Krane

The young singer who gained solid reputation with his hit single Uni Girls remains to be one of the most loved acts.

Dammy Krane entered the Nigerian music industry with a bang.

He was loved by boys and girls. His uncanny energy captivated a lot of music lovers and this was augmented by his vocal adroitness.

Dammy Krane was expected to contend with Wizkid for his place as the leading Nigerian singer.

Even though he was signed to Tu Baba’s Hypertek, Dammy Krane failed terribly in his endeavor to secure an enviable position in the Nigerian music industry.

There are many other artists whose careers have taken a dive in their bid to register themselves in the list of successful Nigerian musicians.

Some of them include Durella, Klever Jay, Humble Smith, Vector and many more.

It’s another throwback Thursday and Mp3bullet.ng goes down memory lane to highlight the Nigerian artists who faded from the limelight after their first hit songs

It’s one thing to go to the top; it’s quite another to stay there. We see this a lot in the music industry, where many musicians have struggled to maintain their position at the top following the success of their initial hit songs.

Not every musician has been fortunate enough to stay relevant in the industry for a long time, while some faded away as soon as their initial hit single dropped off the charts.

So let’s take a look at those artists that faded from the limelight after their initial big single.

• RELATED: Throwback: Nigerian artists who once dominated the Music Industry

Bigiano

No party mix in 2008 was complete without Bigiano’s smash hit “Shayo.” The song was so well-liked that it became a street anthem. Many people assumed that Bigiano would stay at the top for a long time because of the song’s success, but this was not the case.

Bigiano took a break from the spotlight during the height of his popularity, only to return a few years later with the song “Tonight.” However, the song failed to garner the same level of attention as his first hit song, and he has not been able to return to the top since.

Weird MC

When Weird MC’s name is mentioned, the monster smash song “Ijoya” immediately springs to mind.

With the release of the song in 2006, she became a national sensation and imprinted her name in gold in the minds of music fans. She had released an album in 1996, but Ijoya was her first hit, and it was this song that first brought her to the attention of the public.

Although Ijoya was a financial success, her album “After the Storm” fell short of expectations.

After the triumph of Ijoya, she featured on a series of songs like “Bizzy Body” remix by P-square but none of her solo songs have managed to dominate airwaves since then.

In October 2020, she was photographed in London during the EndSARS protest.

Klever Jay

Klever Jay shot to fame in 2008 with the release of his smash single “Koni Koni Love.” The song became well-known throughout the country, and he was happy of his popularity.

The song was a watershed moment in his life and career, and it is still his most famous tune. Klever Jay, on the other hand, was unable to produce another hit song after that.

The singer released numerous other songs after the popularity of “Koni Koni Love,” but none of them were able to keep him on the pedestal that “Koni Koni Love” had placed him on. Klever Jay quickly vanished from the scene, and nothing has been heard of him since.

Paul Play Dairo

Even if the younger generation does not listen to him, Paul Play Dairo is a living Afro music legend.

The son of Nigerian bandleader, I.K. Dairo, who was dubbed the “Father of Juju Music” for his part in inventing that musical style, finally superseded West African high life as Nigeria’s national sound.

Paul’s music is based on high life, like his father’s, but he also incorporates Gospel, R&B, and Soul into the mix. He knows how to serenade his audience properly, and he does so with the most basic of lyrics to deliver his message of love.

His song titled, ‘Angel of my life’ was one of all-time popular classics, where he expressed all the emotions and feelings he has for the woman in his life, and how he would be without her. But he has faded from the scene.

AY.com

Many years ago, singer AY.com was ranked as one of the best in the music industry for his hit song, ‘Pass me your Love,’ featuring Terry G.

After claims sparked a conflict between him and Terry G, the singer, whose true name is Ayoola Johnson, disappeared from the music industry.

Ay.com went on to record other singles, including ‘Jombolo,’ ‘Komagbon,’ and ‘No Mind Dem‘ but none could replicate his success like “Pass Me Your Love.”

In 2021, he released a remix of “Pass Me Your Love” which featured Peruzzi.

To celebrate the greatness of the Nigerian Music Industry, Mp3bullet.ng put together a list of Top 10 Nigerian Artists with dancefloor songs that are evergreen

Disclaimer, this list doesn’t contain all the evergreen songs in the industry but it’s a compilation of the editors’ pick, the songs we could get our hands on.

This list contains songs that even when they come out on speakers now, would still have the power to send a crowd into a frenzy.

Here are the Top 10 Nigerian Artists with dancefloor songs that are evergreen’

Gongo Aso-9ice

There are few songs that have the tendency to outlive even their creator and “Gongo Aso” is one of them. The song which was the lead single from 9ice’s sophomore album of the same name was released in the 2000s to critical reception.

The song solidified 9ice’s status in the industry and is not just an evergreen anthem but a showcase of what 9ice can do is capable of.

Lori Le- X-Project ft Konga

Lori Le, a song that was popular a decade ago, is also deserving of inclusion on this list. The music, which was released in 2007 by X project, has the power to scatter the ground floor even in the current day.

While X Project didn’t have any other ance anthem like “Lori Le“, they would be remembered for the magic they made on this song.

Close To You- Mo’Hits All-Stars(D’banj, Wande Coal, Dr Sid)

The defunct Mo’hits crew gave us good music back in the mid-2000s. The crew led by Don Jazzy and D’banj dropped an album, “Curriculum Vitae” in 2007.

From the album, is this classic number “Close To You“. It features Wande Coal’s stellar vocals, D’Banj’s kokolet crooning frenzy, D’Prince and Dr Sid’s impressive rap cuts and of course, beats savvy Don Jazzy.

Pass My Your Love- Ay.Com ft Terry G

When AY.Com and Terry G released this smash hit single in 2009, it swept the music industry by storm.

The creativity behind this music is an awesome one. There aren’t many songs from that year that still sound like hits today.

The song dropped at the time Terry G was a rave act already disturbing the air with “Free Madness”.

In 2021, AY.Com made a comeback into the Industry with a remix of the song featuring Peruzzi.

Free Madness- Terry G

There used to be a time when Terry G was the main deal of the street. The singer’s eccentric style of music which was a fusion of fast-paced beat and heavy Lamba had the streets in a chokehold with his music.

The singer has a lot of evergreen songs but the biggest of them is his 2008 “Free Madness.” The song which sounds like a freestyle was a turning point for the singer.

Over the Moon- Dr Sid ft Kayswitch

Dr SID released his debut album, “Turning Point” in 2010. Prior to that, he had featured on Mo’hits compilation album, “Curriculum Vitae” where he had appeared on 7 tracks out of ts 15 songs.

Dr SID who was predominately a rap artist was revamped by Don Jazzy into a singer and dropped “Turning Point” in 2010.

The album had a lot of hits like ‘Pop Something“, “Something About You“, “Winchi Winchi” but one of its biggest was the Kayswitch-assisted “Over The Moon”

From the intro of the song, you already know it’s about to become a euphoric ride.

Do Me- P-square

P-square is one of the foremost Nigerian music groups that entertained the African and international music scene with their songs for years until their separation in 2017.

The music duo had hits that one can’t forget and it was shard picking a song. For this list, Mp3bullet.ng decided to go with “Do Me“.

“Do Me” contains the stunning vocals of Afrocentric music singer Waje and her mezzo-soprano.

In a completely separate context, the video depicts the twin brothers in their early game-changing styletitude, which they’ve always had a talent for reflecting hip culture.

The song is one of the smashing hit songs off their third studio album, “Game Over“.

Pakurumo- Wizkid

Wizkid might be the present day Afrobeat King but his journey started in 2010 with his debut album, “Superstar”

“Superstar” was a versatile album with diverse songs but one in particular, “Pakurumo” was showcased a different dimension to Wizkid.

While Wizkid had a lot of pop and R’n’B songs on the album, “Pakurumo” caught people because of the fuji infused sound.

The music video had a cameo of celebrities like Funke Akindele, Banky W, Ice Prince, Alibaba among others.

Dem Mama- Timaya

Timaya has been in the industry since 2005 and over the years propel pop and dancehall sound in the Nigerian Music Industry.

His first song, “Dem Mama” launched his career as part of his debut album, ‘True Story”.

The socio-political song is an ode to the tragic massacre that happened in Odi, Bayelsa in 1999 by the Nigerian military.

Timaya made a song that was both danceable and impactful.

You Bad- Wande coal ft D’banj

In 2009, Wande Coal dropped one of Nigeria’s best albums of the decade, ‘Mushin to Mohits.” While the album had a lot of hits to take from, Mp3bullet.ng picked “You Bad”

Featuring former labelmate, D’banj, “You Bad” from the intro spellbound listeners that gets them dancing.

But, boy, he made some very good music, when he was alive. He sure didn’t live long enough to have as many albums or tracks as Olamide, but he’s got a classic catalog, that is full of great music and then some.

Today is Thursday, and while we’re doing some Throwback, we thought there’s no better time than now to give y’all some old Dagrin songs that are more motivational, than just the usual ‘braggadocious’ Dagrin vibe.

• Ghetto Dream ft. Sossick

Arguably, one of Dagrin’s best songs. It was such a big hit and was on the “C.E.O” album. His longtime producer, Sossick was on the song and he delivered the perfect hook, for an inspiring tune.

“Sometimes, when I sleep and I’m dreaming, man, I don’t just wanna wake up… ”

Dagrin did a lot of bars, on this one, talking about how he was coming up and his big dreams. Classic.

• Everyday

This is like Nigeria’s “Hard Knock Life.” It was real hip-hop, and Dagrin took on his storytelling style to talk about how he’s hustling every day.

The beat, the sample, the rhymes, lyrics and literally everything on the song is cool. Not to forget the inspiration it’s got. You might wanna put this on some time for some early morning motivation.

• I Made It ft. Iceberg Slim

One thing is, Dagrin is a dope rapper, not only because he makes good songs, but also because he knows how to collaborate with other artists. Many of his big hits have been collaborations, especially with singers, since he barely does his hook.

Iceberg Slim put the Yoruba rapper, on this funky hip-hop single, “I Made It” and as expected the lyricist breathed some life into the music.

The chorus is electric though, and you might wanna give Iceberg Slim, proper kudos for that!

• Efimile

Remember that thing about collaboration? Yeah, Dagrin was never short of collaborations, everyone loved him.

Well, at the time YQ was one hell of a singer, who has delivered amazing hooks for rappers, including M.I Abaga. It was only a matter of time before he hooked up with Grin.

“Efimile” is like a song for haters and enemies who are trying to take his shine away from him. Well, everyone’s got that. Hip-hop, as usual, and could put some real-life lessons into your head. Really.

• Iwofa

Bigiano is known for his hot club tracks back then, and his very catchy lyrics. Dagrin, his indigenous hip-hop style that was starting to gain traction in the mainstream.

“Iwofa” actually had a dance hall beat, but still had some inspirational lyrics. It’s even better if you knew it, back then. A little bit of nostalgia will make it even better.

His bars are dope as ever, bouncing and all that. He did his signature chuckle on it, too. And Sheyman produced this track. So, next time you wondering where that guy earned his bragging rights? Dagrin.

What other Dagrin songs do you remember?

This post appeared first on Mp3bullet.ng... Read Original post on Dagrin Songs that will motivate you..

At a time when hip-hop was coming in, afropop was gaining traction, and dancehall was king, Shank was one of the artists that rose from ‘upcoming’ and gave us hit (you may want to add an “s”?) “Julie” and “Salute” were major club hits, and were banging on radio, in ’09. Shank’s fame quickly spread, and by the time his album “King Kong” came, he was somewhat of a household name.

The “King Kong” album housed “Julie,” and three ‘eye-catching’ collabos. “Never Felt” with D’banj (everyone wanted the Koko, then), “Shorty” that had American superstar, Akon and “Won Le Nu” featuring Dagrin. The album was a success, and… the rest is history!

Shank didn’t dwindle, he just left the scene. No signs of a comeback. And all that’s left of Shank are just memories of his heydays… Does he even cross anyone’s mind, these days? Is he anyone’s favourite? Do new artists look up to him? Is he done making music? Is he going to come back?

That’s all that is left of the superstar. Questions, just questions!

Born Chinedu Naze, the now-35-year-old singer, was known not only for his works with Akon, D’banj and others, but also for the influences he got from the legendary maestro, Fela. His sound is predominantly dancehall/reggae, hence the popular phrase; “before there was ever Burna Boy, there was Shank!”

Shank Julie

BUT, not everyone is lucky to make a hit, twice. On the long run, we still have a handful of one-hit wonders. Artists who made Nationwide hits, only for all their next efforts to get slept on. On this list, we give you seven of the known one-hit wonders, of our day. These are artists even children from the indomie generation will know.

1. Bigiano – Shayo

Waste of talent, or what do we call this? Bigiano made one of the biggest hits of 2008, a club jam named “Shayo.” If you listened to Nigerian music in ’08, you’ll definitely know Bigiano and that “Shayo” jam. BUT, that was his only hit.

2. Jodie – Kuchi Kuchi

Whatever happened to Jodie..

Oh baby, oh baby, kuchi kuchi yeah.. Who doesn’t know that song? That tung I won’t do to make you smile oh.” BUT, almost four years after, where’s the hit single? In the works, I guess. Anyway, she’s got two
babies.

3. Chuddy K – Gaga Crazy

“Go gaga going crazy, o yes she’s going crazy” This jam was one of the biggest club bangers, in 2012. But, unfortunately, that was the last time we heard of Chuddy K.

Turning Chuck D’s name upside down to form your stagename shouldn’t really have a lot of effect on your career. Or should it?

4. Lynxxx – Fine Lady ft Wizkid

Thank God for Wizkid. Lynxx might have ended up without a hit single. No doubt, Fine Lady, which had vocals from WizKid, was a hit, then. The Video, was one of a kind, too.

BUT, then Lynxx ? He’s still working on “the hit single after the hit single!”

5. Di’ ja – Awww

2014 saw a lot of new stars shine in the industry. YBNL, Mavins, had new guys who were for sure gonn’ wow the industry. Di’ ja was one of ’em.

She dropped “Awww.” Everybody knew “there’s nothing I won’t do to make you smile oh.” BUT, almost four years after, where’s the hit single? In the works, I guess. Anyway, she’s got two babies.

6. Viktoh – Skibi Dat

Before “Skibi Dat,” Viktoh was popular for his contribution to Lil Kesh’s viral “Efejoku.” BUT, he doesn’t even understand what he wants to do. Sing, rap, or be a fine boy? His music has failed to impress. Only “Skibi Dat,” was a hit, all what he did after that, didn’t pick up. I pray his new single “P-popping” featuring Olamide turns out to be a hit.

7. SugarBoy – Hola Hola

Some still say Sugarboy never blow. And that’s because, after his mild hit “Hola Hola,” in 2016, he’s not done anything so hot. Even his album was shit. Stealing a song from a fresh act didn’t help
either. Where is Sugar Boy today sef?

Mp3Bullet.ng presents you 18 of the albums turning 10 (or may have turned 10) in 2018. That means those albums are 10 years old! Some are still fresh, some are almost forgotten, but all made 2008 memorable. Oya come make we go.

1. M.I ABAGA – TALK ABOUT IT

M.I, born Jude Abaga, stormed the scene in 2006, holding down everywhere from Jos, his hometown, to Lagos. His single “Crowd Mentality” started off being popular in J-Town, before “Safe,“ which had Djinee (and sampled all hot pop song then), came. “Safe” changed the game, in a “scary” way. Still from the album, a shot called “Fast Money Fast Cars,” first introduced Wizkid, before Wizkid went on to become Nigeria’s hottest. In many ways, the album was a ground-breaking one. And, these days, it’d take the intervention of Afro beats, for a rapper to sell as much as M.I sold, then. Even M.I can’t remake the magic. Nigeria’s hip-hop community won’t be forgetting “Talk About It” anytime soon.

2. 9ICE – GONGO ASO

9ice definitely had to do a whole album called “ID Cabasa!” In 2008, 9ice worked with ID Cabasa, and he made the best album of that year. The albums birthed hits we won’t forget including “Gongo Aso,” “Pamurogo,” “Party Rider,” “Street Credibility” feat. 2Baba and more. Now, who says 9ice ain’t G.O.A.T?

3. D’BANJ – THE ENTERTAINER

D’banj, before 2008, was a star, no doubt. BUT, “The Entertainer,” marked a big era for the pop singer – and, yeah, he’s not just a singer, he’s an entertainer. The Entertainer. And, this is one of the biggest albums in Nigeria in the last two decades.

Hit singles like “Mo gbono feli feli,” “Olorun Maje,” “Kimon,” “Suddenly,” and the monster hit “Fall In Love,” all came from the album. Infact the whole 10 tracks on the album, were hits. And, it was in that same year, 2008!

4. 2FACE – THE UNSTOPPABLE

2face does RnB, really, but he was the one who really championed pop, in those days. He has a lot of pop records, to say the least. And “The Unstoppable,” further showed us that Innocent Idibia was unstoppable.

Due to some brouhaha, the album was poorly distributed in 2008, which prompted a re-release in 2010. It was called “The Unstoppable (International Edition).” 7 tracks from the original were added to the new one.

“Enter the place,” was from the album. The hit “Rain Drops,” too. And “Excuse Me Sister.” What an album!

5. TIMAYA – GIFT AND GRACE

Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa is a veteran, too. Timaya isn’t all these new dancehall acts’ mate kwanu. His album “Gift And Grace,” came in 2008. It has 14 songs which included hits like “I don blow,” “Dem Mama Anthem,” “Hey,” “God You Are 2 Much,” and “Ogologomma Remix.”

It was a big year for Tim.

6. NAETO C – U KNOW MY P

Kini big deal, kini big deal, shebi shebi we’re on fire…

One of the earliest dope rap records, in Nigeria. Naeto C was almost written off as an Ajebo, who’s not fit for the industry. C wasn’t having any of that. And this album “U Know My P,” took him to greater heights. Nigeria paid attention. “Kini Big Deal,” which featured Ikechukwu was sort of the hottest rap record in town, at that time. Other hot tracks include “The Devil Is A Liar” and “This Is What I Do.”

7. FAZE – ORIGINALITY

Just like D’banj, and 2face, Faze had his third studio album released in 2008. And, it’s success was undeniable. Even after the break of Plantashun Boiz, he could still hold it down solo. Not to forget, how the album was anticipated, and it came in October.

Hot tracks like “Originality,” “Play Ball” and “Story Of My Life” managed to gain prominence, then.

8. BANKY W – MR CAPABLE

This was RnB at it’s peak. The EME head honcho, packaged 14 banging tracks for the album. The guest features was one of a kind with Danny L, Sauce Kid, eLDee, Donnie and Tynie. It was a good time for Banky.

And his nick was apparently from this Era.

9. iLLBliss – DAT IBO BOY

In hip hop today, Illbliss is still one of the most underrated. Probably ‘cos we still have him around. The Igbo boy, who was a member of one of the pioneering rap groups Thoroughbreds, is one of the best lyricists and his flow is cool, too. Revered from the streets of Lagos, to the nooks of Enugu.

His album “Dat Ibo Boy,” is 10 years, and you won’t forget “U Go Wound,” or that “Enuf Space” which had Terry G on. Or will you?

10. eLDee – BIG BOY

In the year 2008, if anybody deserves to be called “Big boy,” it was Eldee. The big boy of hip-hop. What do we call him 10 years after? Big man, I guess?

The album had songs like “Bosi Gbangba,” “Big Boy” and “Go.” It boasts of appearances from Banky W, Iceberg Slim, Keno, Proto and Rukus. Big boy, indeed!

11. DURELLA – KING OF ZANGA

Somehow, Durella’s career sank, before he could reach the heights D’banj reached. And some call him a “one-hit wonder.” BUT, still, he has an album (King Of Zanga) which was commercially a hit.

The singer born, Oluwadamilare Okulaja (nothing close to Durella), released the album in 2008. And, it has hot songs like “Enu Ose,” “Shayo,” “Queen Of My Zanga,” and that “Wizkolowiska!”

12. BLACKFACE NAIJA – ME, MUSIQ AND I

Blackface, like 2face and Faze, also dropped an album, “Me, Musiq And I,” and it was critically a dope album. Maybe even better than Faze and 2face’s own? Maybe not. But then, he still made something iconic with that piece.

13. LORD OF AJASA – SECOND TURNING BY THE RIGHT

Today, you may respect Dagrin, as the progenitor of Yoruba rap, and Olamide as the one who took it commercial. BUT, you can’t deny it, Lord Of Ajasa rapped in yoruba. 2008, his album came and it has hit singles like “Le Fenu So” (feat. Konga, 9ice, Jahbless), “Esa Lo Bade” and “N’Gba Tawa Ni Kekere.”

14. KLEVER JAY – THE BEGINNING

Klever Jay ain’t a popular act in today’s pop, but sometimes around 2008, he had two singles that scattered the dance floors; “Koni Koni Luv,” and “Igboro Ti Daru.” If you don’t know those two songs, you weren’t in Naija, in 2008. They were from his album, The Beginning, released that same year.

15. MODE9 – THE PARADIGM SHIFT

Modo might not have made hits from albums, but he did prove “we no fit sell hardcore for Naija men” wrong. Extraordinary hip-hop at it’s best, the Yoruba MC delivers one of the best rap projects in Nigeria, ever. And yeah, he sold! It won’t be nice to ignore the fact that he actually had top-notch guests; Banky W, Sound Sultan, Eve Urrah, Mallam Spicey, Bez and more. “Death Blow,” that amazing beef song aimed at Ruggedy Baba was from the album, too.

16. J MARTINS – GET SERIOUS

Being authentic and unique can really get you to heights you might not reach by aligning with the crowd. Doing what is called “urban highlife,” isn’t the best of stuffs, then, but it did made J. Martins a star.

His debut, “Get Serious,” which had singles like “Good Or Bad,” “Cool Temper” and “So Fly,” was a commercial and critical success. It’s 10 years, this year.

17. SOUND SULTAN – SS4

Call him alternative or whatever, Sound Sultan remains one of the bests, ever. SS4 is his fourth studio album, and it has the jam “Aimo Asiko,” which featured 9ice and Lord Of Ajasa.

18. PRAIZ – P.R.I.D.E

Before “Rich and Famous,” Praiz had an album you probably never heard of. And it’s 10 years, since then. The album called “P.R.I.D.E” housed 9 tracks.

What other album, is 10 this year? Bet we listed them all!
