Benjamin Mendy was found not guilty on seven charges; however, the jury was unable to reach verdicts on two rape charges, so Mendy will have to stand trial again on those two crimes later this year.

But, the French footballer was declared NOT GUILTY of five counts of rape, one count of attempted rape, and a second complaint of sexual assault.

After 14 days of deliberations at Chester Crown Court, Judge Steven Everett today released a jury comprised of seven men and four women.

The judge had first ordered them to rule unanimously on all 18 allegations against Mendy, 28, and his co-accused Louis Saha Matturie, 41.

Judge Everett stated on Wednesday, the 12th day of deliberations, that he would accept a majority ruling. However, the jury of 11 was unable to reach a verdict, prompting the judge to adjourn the trial, which began in the middle of August.

Addressing the jury, Judge Everett said: “It is not unusual that jurors don’t reach verdicts on some counts. You have to be true to your duty.” He excused them from any further jury duty for seven years.

Mendy, of Mottram St Andrew, Cheshire, had denied all charges. He has been suspended without pay by Manchester City since first being charged in September of 2021.

Matturie, of Eccles, Salford, has been found not guilty of three counts of rape relating to two teenagers. The jury were unable to reach verdicts on three additional rape counts and three allegations of sexual assault against him by five other women.

Four weeks into the trial, Mendy and Matturie were found not guilty of an additional count of rape against a 19-year-old woman after video evidence was produced in court that showed consensual intercourse taking place.

After the jury was discharged Matthew Conway, representing the prosecution, said that they would be seeking a retrial on the counts the jury could not reach verdicts on.

Mr Conway said: “The prosecution has made a decision. We have made a decision today, which is to proceed on these counts in two separate trials and we seek today a provisional case management.”

Two dates in the summer were discussed before the agreement was reached for the retrial to begin on June 26. It is expected to last two to three weeks.

Mr Matturie will be tried separately with his trial initially pencilled in for mid-September.

In a statement, Man City said: “Manchester City FC notes the verdict from Chester Crown Court today, where a jury has found Benjamin Mendy not guilty of seven charges. The jury is hung on two charges and the trial is now over.

“Given there are open matters related to this case, the Club is not in a position to comment further at this time.”

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was reported to have testified in the rape trial of former player Benjamin Mendy.  Guardiola had taken the stand via video call to testify at the rape trial involving his former player Benjamin Mendy.

Despite not personally knowing the former City player, Pep reportedly said that he was a good guy. He continued by saying that he was only interested in Mendy as a player and that he had no idea what the French international did in his free time or on social media.

Pep stated that Mendy is:

an exceptional player whose heart was always happier in the locker room than out on the pitch.

When asked about the rape allegations involving the player, Pep also explained that he had been called by Mendy to give a testimony at the trial. He revealed:

“He asked me to come to be here with all of you and that’s why I’m here.”

The BBC revealed:

It has been alleged that Mr Mendy and his friend Louis Saha Matturie raped a number of women at the footballer’s mansion or at an apartment in Manchester.

Mr Mendy has denied all the charges against him, while Mr Matturie, 41, of Eccles, Salford, has denied six counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault relating to seven young women.

Both men have said if any sex took place it was consensual.

In connection to his interactions with the six women who are accusing him of rape, Benjamin Mendy has made a shocking revelation.

The French man entered the courtroom to address the jury for the first time since the case’s commencement, and he has maintained his not-guilty plea.

The Manchester City defender said before the jury that when he was 18 years old and playing for Marseille in the French first league, ladies began to approach him. He claimed that after he joined Manchester City, the attention from ladies increased tenfold.

I was enjoying the house, I was enjoying the women. I was so happy to be here, so excited. I was excited about the football as well.

He was asked if it was easy to meet women since he became a footballer, and his response was positive.

I was earning like £4 every day, to spend it in the canteen to buy some food. . It is the first time I was really careful. The life I had before, everything I wanted to have, I just buy it. So it taught me the value of money. Speaking of prison, At the same time, I was sad, and upset to go in there, but at the same time, I l, earned a lot of things about life.

The offences are alleged to have taken place at his mansion between October 2018 and August last year, and relate to six women.
