Arsenal defender Ben White has signed a new long-term deal with the club.

White arrived from Brighton in the summer of 2021, and his original contract ran until June 2026. Talks for a contract extension have been going on for months, but manager Mikel Arteta has long believed that a favorable settlement is close.

After reports of White’s agreement leaked on Wednesday evening, Arsenal has now confirmed that White has signed a new contract.

“It’s great news that Ben is committing his future to the club,” said Arteta. “Ben is a key player for us, a top professional with a winning mentality, and one of the guys who leads by example every day.

“Ben’s ability, determination and positive attitude are so important, but he is also a great character and human being. We all look forward to continue working with Ben in the coming years.”

Sporting director Edu added: “We are so happy to have completed a new long-term contract with Ben. Since Ben joined us, his contribution and commitment have been of such high quality. Our supporters love him, we love him and we look forward to enjoying Ben”s performances with us for years to come.”

Now that White’s contract has been finalized, Arsenal is anticipated to focus on left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko. The current contract for the 27-year-old is set to expire in 2026.

With 39 appearances so far this season in all competitions, White has been a crucial part of Arteta’s team. He started the season as a center defender, but was moved back out to the right after right-back Jurrien Timber was injured.

When they play fellow title contenders City, the team hopes to keep up their winning trend. On March 15, they will also find out who they will face in the Champions League quarterfinals.

England Head Coach Gareth Southgate has announced his first 2023 squad as they prepare for Euro 2024 qualification. Ivan Toney has been added to the squad, however, Ben White, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Raheem Sterling have been left out.

Toney, a striker for Brentford who was passed over for World Cup duty but now has 16 Premier League goals for the season, rejoins the Three Lions squad.

Although Gareth Southgate is willing to give the 27-year-old forward another chance and disregard the headlines he has been creating off the field this season, Arsenal defender White, who was sent home early from the Middle East, has no place in a first team since Qatar 2022.

After receiving limited playing time at Manchester United this season, Harry Maguire is called upon again, but Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has been omitted as further concerns are raised about his defensive abilities. Raheem Sterling of Chelsea will miss the game due to an injury.

Cedric Soares, an Arsenal defender who has had very few playing opportunities at the Emirates, has agreed to join Fulham on loan for the rest of the season.

The 31-year-old has made just two substitute appearances in the Premier League so far this season, and he has only made two additional appearances in cup competitions.

Despite his versatility, the Portugal international has struggled to get playing time this year under Mikel Arteta. The right-back by profession can also play left-back and even in the centre of defence.

Marco Silva, the manager of Fulham, previously worked with Soares at Sporting and is eager to do so again at Craven Cottage.

Silva’s side are enjoying a fantastic season after promotion from the Championship, currently seventh in the Premier League and in contention for European football.

ESPN report that a deal has been agreed for Soares to move across London on a six-month loan with no option or obligation to buy in the summer.

The defender’s Arsenal contract is up in 2024, and his future with the club will be decided after the end of the current season.

According to an ESPN report, Fulham will pay Soares‘ entire salary, which is close to £100,000 a week.

In January 2020, Soares made a temporary loan move to Arsenal from Southampton. He then made the move permanent that summer and made 59 appearances for the team in all competitions.

His opportunities have been more constrained than ever this season due to competition from Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu for the right-back spot and Kieran Tierney and Oleksandr Zinchenko for the left-back spot.
