Some talented musicians have emerged in 2021, and for many of these top 5 new artistes, it was so far been a successful year in the Nigerian music industry.

While some new acts came to the limelight with amazing introductory projects (EP’s mostly), some gained momentum through hit singles or memorable collaborations. It’s really been a year.

Lojay

What Lojay had to offer was a breath of fresh air with a particularly unique style that combines witty lyricism and catchy sounds.

His debut, an EP titled “LV N ATTN,” is a 5-track collaboration with badass producer, Sarz.

The EP has not one but three hits and is definitely one of 2021’s best projects. This alone establishes Lojay as a major breakthrough act of 2021.

Ruger

The Jonzing World act has released two EPs already this year, one of which houses one of the biggest hits of the year, “Bounce.”

Ruger has that interesting vibe that has received the appraisal and has been compared to that of Rema and Omah Lay.

After two solid projects, you’d expect that this guy would sweep some awards this season. We’ll see about that anyway.

Ayra Starr

Ayra Starr is Don Jazzy‘s new girl that was unveiled earlier this year and introduced with an eponymous EP that had the hit single, “Away.”

Not long after, she followed up with her debut album, a very solid project that has gotten generally positive reviews. The album’s first single, “Bloody Samaritan” is unequivocally one of the hottest songs this year.

 AV

Born Adindu Victor but professionally known as AV is a Nigerian Afro-Pop singer and songwriter who rose to fame for his hit song “Big Thug Boys”.

The professional artist first became interested in music at a very young age, which is not surprising given that everyone in his family enjoys music.

Although we are unsure of AV’s exact net worth at this time and don’t want to estimate it incorrectly, judging from the notoriety he is currently enjoying due to the success of his career, the singer is undoubtedly worth millions.

Fave, like Jaywillz, also started gaining mainstream attention after she was featured on Olamide’s album, about six months ago.

Talented Nigerian disc jockey Michael Babatunde Adeyinka is better known as DJ Tunez is set to release a new Extended Play (EP) featuring some of the music industry’s top stars as well as new generation artists.

DJ Tunez is one of the most respected DJs on the continent of Africa and the official DJ for Starboy Entertainment, which is owned by Afrobeats sensation, Wizkid.

The disc jockey is notable for some of the finest hit songs in Nigeria and abroad, such as ‘Pami’ featuring Wizkid, Adekunle Gold, and Omah Lay, and ‘Cool Me Down’ featuring Big Wiz, just to mention a few of his famous songs.

On the 10th of June, the disc jockey took to his Twitter page, to announce some of the guest artists who will appear on the upcoming EP titled ‘Cruise Control.’

He disclosed that the sough-after Wizkid, the highly respected vocalist Wande Coal, budding talents AV, Victony, and Alpha P are on the musical project.

He did not reveal a release date for the ‘Cruise Control’ album, but it is expected to be released soon.

The Headies has announced that it may disqualify Portable because of his death threat to co-nominees for its 2022 season.

The announcement was made by the award’s organizers via their Satellite TV station and official Instagram page.

It should be remembered that Headies announced the nominations for its 2022 edition on Tuesday, May 24th.

Portable was nominated in the categories of “Rookie of the Year” and “Best Street-Hop Artiste.” He’ll be up against AV, Fave, Magixx, and Ugoccie in the ‘Rookie of the Year’ category.

For the second category, ‘Street-Hop Artiste,’ he will compete against Bella Shmurda, Mohbad, Naira Marley, and Goya Menor.

Portable, on the other hand, declared in a video released on Wednesday that the other nominees are no match for him.

He further threatened to kill anyone who wins any of the categories in his place.

In its public announcement, The Headies said it might be forced to disqualify the singer if he fails to retract his statement and issue an apology on his social media pages.

“We have notified the Nigerian police of Mr. Okokiola’s actions to fellow nominees,” the organizers stated.

“Also, demand for the immediate retraction of the video as well as a written apology to nominees in both categories and The Headies has been made. Should Mr. Okikiola fail to meet our demands, we will not only disqualify him from participating in The Headies but also enforce the instrumentality of the law. The general public is hereby implored to disregard the video and stop the dissemination of same in the public space.”

Portable has sent a strong warning to the Headies Organizers after securing two nominations.

He shared a video of himself gloating about his fame on his Instagram page.

Portable claims that he wasn’t surprised to receive two nominations for Zazoo Zehh! because the smash song is the hottest in the trenches (Street).

He further stated that if Headies grants another artist the awards he deserves, he will not accept it.

The controversial act also has threatened to do something outrageous if something like this happens during the award show.

He also took the opportunity to shade the artists nominated in the same categories as him.

According to him, the other artists are not recognized in the trenches the same way he is.

He stated that his name and his songs are accepted around the different parts of Nigeria and also in the diaspora.

Yesterday, Headies Organizers unveiled the nomination list for the 2022 Headies Award and Portable bagged two nominations.
