Music statistics platform Chart Data has marked its 10th anniversary by partnering with Apple Music to unveil a ranking of the 20 most-streamed artists of all time on the streaming platform.

The list highlights the artists who have defined the streaming era, with American and Canadian stars dominating the rankings thanks to years of commercial success, chart-topping releases, and massive global audiences.

Leading the pack is Drake, whose decade-long run of streaming dominance sees him claim the top spot. Close behind is Taylor Swift at No. 2, making her the highest-ranked female artist on the chart.

At No. 3 is Future, whose influence on modern trap music has translated into billions of streams worldwide. The top five is rounded out by YoungBoy Never Broke Again and Bad Bunny, both of whom have built remarkably loyal fan bases in the streaming era.

Further down the list, Lil Baby claims sixth place, followed by The Weeknd at No. 7 and Morgan Wallen at No. 8.

Kanye West and Post Malone complete the top 10, underscoring the continued popularity of hip-hop and crossover pop acts on the platform.

Spotify has published its 2026 Songs of Summer predictions, a curated selection of 30 tracks that its editorial team believes could dominate listening trends during the upcoming summer season.

The annual list brings together a blend of global superstars and rising talents, cutting across genres and regions. Featured names include Ariana Grande, Drake, Tems, Ghanaian duo DopeNation, and Zara Larsson, reflecting Spotify’s continued push toward a globally diverse music landscape.

According to the platform, this year’s selection highlights several emerging musical directions expected to shape summer listening habits. These include nostalgia-inspired dance records, globally influenced club sounds, emotionally driven pop music, and a growing wave of country songs focused on travel, place, and personal reflection.

For the first time, Spotify has also introduced an in-app voting feature within the playlist, allowing users to choose the track they believe will become the defining song of the summer. Fans can vote directly through the platform and share their picks across social media.

Key trends shaping the 2026 summer sound

Spotify’s editorial team identified a resurgence of nostalgic dance and club influences as one of the season’s dominant themes. Tracks such as New Religion by Bebe Rexha and Faithless, Jamaican (Bam Bam) by HUGEL and SOLTO, and PinkPantheress’ Girl Like Me draw heavily from earlier electronic eras. Zara Larsson’s Midnight Sun also stands out for its inspiration from 1990s house and early 2000s French electronic music.

Global dance fusion continues to play a major role, with songs like Kakalika by DopeNation showcasing the blending of azonto rhythms with amapiano influences.

Another notable trend is what Spotify describes as a “sadboy summer,” marked by emotionally reflective and introspective pop records. Tracks such as Dominic Fike’s Babydoll and Malcolm Todd’s Earrings fall into this category.

Country music also makes a strong appearance through what Spotify calls “postcard country,” where storytelling is tied to specific locations and personal memory. Kacey Musgraves’ Mexico Honey and Noah Kahan’s Doors are highlighted examples.

Afrobeats Shines at the 2025 MTV VMAs: Full List of Nominations

Nigerian music continues to break boundaries on the global stage, and this year’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) is no exception. The 2025 VMAs have officially rolled out their full list of nominations, with Afrobeats firmly in the spotlight and some of Nigeria’s biggest stars earning major recognition.

Leading the Nigerian contingent is Burna Boy, who secured three nominations across multiple categories. His Travis Scott-assisted hit TaTaTa earned him a nod for Best Afrobeats, while his powerful solo track Higher is nominated in the Video for Good category. Burna Boy also scores a mention for Best Visual Effects through his appearance in The Weeknd’s cinematic video for Hurry Up Tomorrow.

Wizkid also makes his mark with a nomination for Best Afrobeats for Piece Of My Heart, his collaboration with American singer Brent Faiyaz, a track that has drawn critical acclaim for its smooth blend of R&B and Afrobeats.

Afrobeats queen Tems and street-hop star Asake share a nomination in the same category for their joint effort Get It Right, while Asake earns an additional nod for Best Afrobeats with Active, another collaboration with Travis Scott.

Apple Music reveals list of its most-streamed songs this decade

As part of its 10th-anniversary celebration, Apple Music has released a comprehensive list of its 500 most-streamed songs over the past decade, with British superstar Ed Sheeran claiming the No. 1 spot with his 2017 global smash, “Shape of You.”

The chart-topping single outperformed major hits like The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” and Drake’s “God’s Plan,” which came in at second and third place, respectively.

Since its release, Shape of You has set several streaming records, including the highest number of first-day plays on Apple Music, and it held firm atop the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 consecutive weeks. The song later earned Sheeran a Grammy Award for Best Pop Solo Performance in 2018.

To commemorate the occasion, Apple Music curated a special 10th-anniversary playlist featuring all 500 songs and conducted an exclusive interview with Ed Sheeran. In a reflective chat with Zane Lowe, Sheeran said:

“No one can take away the song. I’ll be able to play it forever… I’m just grateful to have songs like that, where anywhere in the world, you can pick up a guitar and make someone happy.”

The 2025 American Music Awards (AMAs) lit up the Fontainebleau Las Vegas on Monday, May 26, in a star-studded celebration of global musical excellence, hosted by pop icon Jennifer Lopez.

MTV EMAs 2024: The full winners’ list was announced on the star-studded night at Manchester’s Co-op Live Arena

The 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards wrapped up tonight at the brand-new Co-op Live arena in Manchester, with a dazzling array of famous faces gracing the red carpet and electrifying performances lighting up the stage.

The ceremony, held on November 10, marked the first time the EMAs took place in this venue, and it delivered a night to remember.

Returning to host the awards for the third time, pop star Rita Ora led the festivities, introducing live performances by some of music’s biggest names, including Raye, Pet Shop Boys, Le Sserafim, Shawn Mendes, and Benson Boone.

The night was packed with high-energy moments and emotional tributes as stars presented awards and celebrated the achievements of the music industry’s finest.

Taylor Swift led the winners, taking home four awards, while Tyla and Ariana Grande each won two awards. Ariana Grande snagged the Best Pop category, and Sabrina Carpenter’s track “Espresso” took home the award for Best Song.

Meanwhile, Liam Gallagher was honored with the Best Rock award, reaffirming his place as one of the genre’s enduring icons.

The night also paid tribute to former One Direction star Liam Payne, who tragically passed away in October. The heartfelt homage honored Payne’s contributions to music and the impact he had on fans worldwide.

Although some winners couldn’t attend in person, stars like Tyla and Raye took to the stage to collect their trophies, with Tyla particularly shining as she celebrated her multiple wins.

The prestigious MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) is gearing up for another electrifying edition on September 11, 2024, at 1:00 am WAT, live from the UBS Arena in New York, USA and the nominees are in.

Pop sensation Taylor Swift tops the list with an impressive 10 nominations, solidifying her reign as a music industry icon.
