The track arrives alongside an official music video, set within a studio environment and driven by a simple, performance-focused concept. It’s a collaboration that feels natural, bringing together two artists whose musical roots and influences intersect across generations.

Aye Kan will feature on HOPE!!, Kidjo’s forthcoming album scheduled for release on April 24. The project follows her Grammy-winning 2021 album, Mother Nature, and is expected to feature a wide range of international collaborators, including Pharrell Williams, Quavo, Davido, and Nile Rodgers.

The partnership between Kidjo and Ayra Starr didn’t happen overnight. According to Starr, Kidjo has long been an inspiration to her, especially after witnessing her early global success.

“Angélique Kidjo winning in 2008 was so important for me to see… She’s from the Benin Republic, which is where I was born, so it made me believe I could do the same thing one day,” she said.

Kidjo, on her part, revealed that she made the first move after coming across Starr’s music and being impressed by her artistry.

“I discovered Ayra Starr first through her music… Later, I sent her a DM saying I’d love to work with her,” she said.

The upcoming album HOPE!! is described as a 16-track body of work dedicated to Kidjo’s late mother, blending different sounds and collaborations across genres. It also features contributions from a range of global producers.

Sharing the deeper message behind the project, Kidjo reflected on the state of the world and the need for optimism:

“Sometimes it feels as though the world is losing hope at such a rapid pace that it’s endangering our humanity. With all the music that I create, I want to show that anything and everything is possible… we are all deeply connected.”

With Aye Kan now out, the rollout for HOPE!! is officially in motion, giving fans an early taste of what promises to be a powerful and globally inspired project.

The list reflects the growing global reach of African music, with artists from West, East, and Central Africa all making strong appearances. Ghanaian rap heavyweight Sarkodie claims third place with 121 awards, while Nigeria’s Burna Boy comes in just behind him with 120 accolades. With fresh nominations and recent wins still rolling in, Burna Boy’s tally is expected to rise further.

Also representing Ghana is dancehall star Shatta Wale, who ranks fifth with 115 awards, closely followed by his compatriot Stonebwoy, who has earned 107 awards throughout his career.

East Africa’s influence is felt through Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz, who crosses the 100-award mark with 101 honours, highlighting his impact beyond the region. Veteran Beninese singer and multiple Grammy winner Angélique Kidjo also features among the elite, boasting over 100 career awards, while Congolese music sensation Fally Ipupa completes the top nine with 96 awards.

“My father always used to say to us, especially to me as a singer, do not write music for any political party because they come and they go, and once they’re gone, you go with it,” she recalled.

The veteran performer noted that political power is fleeting, and artists who tie their art to politicians often lose credibility and relevance when regimes change.

Kidjo, who has long been known for using her voice to advocate for social justice and African pride, encouraged artists to remain independent and true to their beliefs instead of serving as mouthpieces for those in authority.

“Write your music with your opinions, be free writing your music. Don’t be sold to somebody because therefore, you don’t become the voice of the people anymore, you become the voice of the power. And when that power shifted, you’re off the window,” she said.

The multi-award-winning singer stressed that true artistry lies in representing the people, not politicians, and in creating songs that outlast political eras.

According to her, musicians who stay rooted in the struggles and hopes of ordinary people ensure that their music remains timeless, regardless of who holds power.

“Once that power changes,” she warned, “such artists are quickly forgotten.”

    In addition to the single, Kizz Daniel also teased his fans with news of the UNCLE K tour, which will see him performing across major cities in the United States.

    The tour kicks off on May 26th at the CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore, MD (15,000 capacity), followed by stops in Houston, TX (Smart Financial Center, 6,000 capacity) on May 26th, Atlanta, GA (Fox Theater, 5,000 capacity) on May 30th, and wraps up in Los Angeles, CA (The Wiltern, 2,000 capacity) on June 1st.

    Excitement continues to build for Kizz Daniel’s upcoming album, rumored to be titled Uncle K, scheduled for release on May 24, 2025, coinciding with the tour.

    While details are still scarce, industry buzz suggests that the album will feature top Nigerian collaborators and introduce a fresh wave of Afrobeats hits, reinforcing Kizz Daniel’s position as one of the genre’s leading figures.

    The 34-year-old global star boasts an illustrious collection, including two American Music Awards, a Grammy, an MTV Video Music Award, three Soul Train Awards, three Billboard Music Awards, and two iHeartRadio Music Awards.

    Wizkid also leads as the African artist with the most BET and MOBO Awards, having secured four BET Awards and six MOBO Awards.

    Closely trailing him is Beninese-French music icon Angélique Kidjo, with 140 awards, including an outstanding five Grammy wins.

    Ghanaian rap legend Sarkodie takes third place with 120 accolades, featuring 30 Ghana Music Awards, three Soundcity Music Video Awards, three Headies, two BET Awards, and an MTV Africa Music Award.

    Burna Boy follows in fourth place with 96 awards, comprising three Nigeria Entertainment Awards, nine Headies, one MTV Africa Music Award, three BET Awards, and an MTV Europe Music Award.

    Kidjo, a five-time Grammy winner from Benin, shared the news on Saturday, October 5, through her verified social media accounts. The song has been entered for both Best African Music Performance and Record of the Year.

    In addition, another track of hers, “Sunlight to My Soul,” featuring the Soweto Gospel Choir and penned by Diane Warren, is in the running for Best Global Music Performance and Song of the Year.

    “Joy,” which was released on August 30, 2024, marks the second collaboration between Kidjo and Davido, following their previous hit “Na Money” from 2023.

    Tems submitted “Born in the Wild” and “Love Me, Jeje,” while Mavin artist Ayra Starr entered “The Year I Turned 21” for Album of the Year and Best Global Music Album, with her song “Commas” vying for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best African Music Performance.
