Gongo Aso-9ice

Gongo Aso

There are few songs that have the tendency to outlive even their creator and “Gongo Aso” is one of them. The song which was the lead single from 9ice’s sophomore album of the same name was released in the 2000s to critical reception.

The song solidified 9ice’s status in the industry and is not just an evergreen anthem but a showcase of what 9ice can do is capable of.

Lori Le- X-Project ft Konga

Lori Le, a song that was popular a decade ago, is also deserving of inclusion on this list. The music, which was released in 2007 by X project, has the power to scatter the ground floor even in the current day.

While X Project didn’t have any other ance anthem like “Lori Le“, they would be remembered for the magic they made on this song.

When AY.Com and Terry G released this smash hit single in 2009, it swept the music industry by storm.

The creativity behind this music is an awesome one. There aren’t many songs from that year that still sound like hits today.

The song dropped at the time Terry G was a rave act already disturbing the air with “Free Madness”.

In 2021, AY.Com made a comeback into the Industry with a remix of the song featuring Peruzzi.

There used to be a time when Terry G was the main deal of the street. The singer’s eccentric style of music which was a fusion of fast-paced beat and heavy Lamba had the streets in a chokehold with his music.

The singer has a lot of evergreen songs but the biggest of them is his 2008 “Free Madness.” The song which sounds like a freestyle was a turning point for the singer.

P-square is one of the foremost Nigerian music groups that entertained the African and international music scene with their songs for years until their separation in 2017.

The music duo had hits that one can’t forget and it was shard picking a song. For this list, Mp3bullet.ng decided to go with “Do Me“.

“Do Me” contains the stunning vocals of Afrocentric music singer Waje and her mezzo-soprano.

In a completely separate context, the video depicts the twin brothers in their early game-changing styletitude, which they’ve always had a talent for reflecting hip culture.

The song is one of the smashing hit songs off their third studio album, “Game Over“.

Alibaba in a write up he posted on Instagram said that the history of commercial success of stand up comedy can’t be written without mentioning the role Lagbaja played in it.

Alibaba Wrote,

“The history of the commercial success of stand up comedy can’t be written without mentioning the role this man, @officiallagbaja played in its, process, development, and activating the cash.
–
From #SeaGarden to #Motherlan’, he was very clear about how he wanted me to be part of his project.
_
“Ali, I want you on stage by 12 midnight till 12:30 or thereabout. Can you handle it?” He asked me at an auto mechanic shop on Oregun.
_
I had seen him play at some events in different parts of Lagos. I knew he had a cult following amongst the upwardly mobile young men and women.
_
I said yes. And were My assumptions right?
_
“I need intelligent and spontaneous jokes that will cut across, Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, and all others who will come to watch us. And I want you to yabbbbbbbb them well well.”
_
What l then said must have sealed it. “Shey you won’t say I should tone it down?”.
_
There was one guy, who sat in at the meeting. He had eyes like a Tortoise Car. His mind was half there at the meeting… and a half at the BMW he had instructed one of his mechanics to fix.
_
His fears were not unfounded. Because, as he was trying to respond to my rhetorical question, the car the young apprentice was trying to jack up, rolled over what he used to wedge the front tyre.
_
We all dashed to assist in pushing the BMW back from where it had rolled into the door of another car.
It was a sloppy workshop.
_
Lagbaja was wearing brown chinos and a checked top.
_
He turned to the mechanic, Adeoye or Ade something, (it’s been long) “So, what do you think?”
_
“He is the man”. And returned to dealing with the vehicle bumper.
_
Lagbaja, at this time, was sitting on the burnet of a car, got up to his feet, and shook my hand. “See you on Friday next week”
_
That Friday came. And The crowd was as predicted, lawless, loud, and unruly. They were rich. I had a goal to reach. So, I left the jokes. Mo bu shege kuro lara awon were. Gradually, they started to listen. There was a new sheriff in town.
_
And from SeaGarden to Opebi, the art and act of Stand Up were eased into the corporate world. Banks. Oil companies. Conglomerates. Military boys… all in.
_
Egungun, Egbon… I appreciate again.”

A lot of my favourite artists, I discovered them through the show. But I can’t forget how I got addicted. That very day, in 2012, I had seen the Video of Darey’s “Sisi Eko,” the remix which featured Flavour.

To be honest, it was classic!

That must have been the big break for Darey, the general acceptance of the single was just impressive. Darey is an RnB artist, and ’11 was a year, when rap music was still dominating. If it was not hip-hop, then it was Afro-Pop. Never highlife, never RnB. But, somehow Darey had managed to gain his ground, in the Soul/RnB music genre. Flavour too, was doing fine.

Having served us a sound that stood out.

So, Darey wanted to do an album, and the highlife “Sisi Eko” actually made the cut. His “Double Dare” album had dropped, and the critical reviews were in favour of the Soul Muzik singer.

Then, just when we thought he was done with the album, he wowed us by releasing a Remix to the track ” Sisi Eko.” And, on it he had featured “Oyi” crooner, and one of the few Igbos making waves in the industry, Flavour N’abania.

Flavour added his own spice to the jam, and it went gaga, across the country.

To further boost, a Video for it was unleashed. Very colourful video, which had cameo appearances from stars like, Alibaba, Seun Kuti, Dr. Sid, Zaina and others.

While many other bangin’ collabos have come out of Nigeria, don’t you think “Sisi Eko” is the classiest?
