Clubs across Europe splashed unprecedented sums, with total spending reaching a staggering €10.23 billion, a new record.

Unsurprisingly, the Premier League once again dominated the headlines, accounting for more than €3.5 billion of that total.

Isak, however, had earlier released a strongly worded statement via Instagram, claiming that Newcastle had failed to honor a prior understanding regarding his future.

The forward noted that “promises were broken” and argued that trust between both parties had collapsed.

Eight players have been announced on the final shortlist for the 2022/23 Premier League Young Player of the Season award.

To be eligible for this reward, players had to be 23 or younger when the season began.

In 2021–2022, Phil Foden of Manchester City won, and there is a significant probability that the trophy will return to the Etihad Stadium now that Foden’s colleague Erling Haaland has been nominated to the shortlist.

Haaland smashed the all-time scoring record in his first season in England, propelling City to yet another Premier League title. It may be said that this argument is strong.

But with three of the youthful core of the Arsenal squad making the cut, there is a lot of competition.

Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, and Gabriel Martinelli are all deserving of the honor. In a season that has blown Arsenal’s expectations out of the water, all three have hit double figures in goals, with plenty of assists thrown in.

Isak has blossomed in the second half of the season after missing most of the first six months due to injury, while Botman had an immediate impact on Newcastle’s defence, which may yet end up being the meanest in the division.

The Premier League have announced their eight-man shortlist for April’s EA Sports Player of the Month award.

Erling Haaland, teammate Kevin De Bruyne, and Newcastle United strikers Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson top the list.

Tottenham Hotspur captain and troubled goalkeeper Hugo Lloris provided a scathing assessment of his team’s 6-1 thrashing of Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.

In a dreadful opening 21 minutes, Lloris only managed one save for Tottenham as they quickly slid to a 5-0 deficit at St James’ Park. Joelinton’s attempt from the top of the box may have been blocked by Lloris’ lone save, but Jacob Murphy cheerfully knocked in the rebound to let the floodgates open.

Joelinton scored first, beating Lloris, and Murphy added a third goal from distance as the clock approached the ninth minute.

Lloris failed to stop Alexander Isak twice in quick succession as Cristian Stellini rearranged back four haemorrhaged opportunities.

The fourth goal for Newcastle was scored by the Sweden international, who weaved between the gaping holes in Tottenham’s defence. Isak easily got past Tottenham’s helpless goalkeeper moments later from a tight angle without seeing much resistance.

Lloris replaced Fraser Forster at halftime, leaving the field after Newcastle scored their sixth goal.

“It’s very embarrassing,” Lloris sheepishly admitted when speaking to Sky Sports after the match. “We should apologise to the fans. We didn’t show a good face and we could not match the performance of the Newcastle players. We were late in all aspects of the game and we completely missed the first part of the game.
