Erik ten Hag has called Manchester United’s performance against Borussia Dortmund in a friendly on Sunday night “unforgivable.”

The Red Devils were defeated 3-2 by BVB on Sunday night at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, thanks to a brace from Donyell Malen and a 71st-minute winner from Youssoufa Moukoko.

Dortmund’s second and third goals were direct results of United’s careless blunders. Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka both made crucial blunders, while teenage winger Omari Forson was replaced before halftime due to concerns he would be sent off.

Speaking after the game to MUTV, manager Ten Hag was quick to stress his disappointment in his side’s performance in the final 30 minutes of the game, lamenting his side’s sloppiness in and out of possession.

“Two parts. The first hour was good, performed well, playing as a team, a lot of dynamism, good pressing, so it was really enjoyable to see and that is what I wanted to say to the team at half-time,” Ten Hag began. “And then all of sudden they gave away two goals – and they were really giveaways. So that was already annoying.

“But the last half an hour, that was bad. That was a poor performance. Didn’t follow the rules at all. Not in pressing, not in building up and not in attacking.

“You see only 60 minutes where I was pleased with it – but not with the goals we conceded, because that was really poor. First one really poor defending and the second one really poor in building up. That is not us.

“We have to keep the control and keep the responsibility on the ball. And it was the same for the 3-2 goal for Dortmund. So that can’t happen. It’s unforgivable, even if it’s a friendly.”

Man United will now return to England to play Lens on August 5 at Old Trafford to finish their preseason, then fly to Dublin, Ireland, to play Athletic Club at the Aviva Stadium.

A “complete defeat” against Aaron Wan-Bissaka in Brighton’s FA Cup loss to Manchester United has been acknowledged by Kaoru Mitoma.

The Red Devils defeated Brighton in a thrilling penalty shootout triumph at Wembley in June, securing their spot in the FA Cup final after the teams were deadlocked at 0-0 after 120 minutes of play.

On Sunday night, Wan-Bissaka held Mitoma on a tight leash with many crunching tackles throughout the game and won one-on-one matches.

The winger had no qualms recognizing that Wan-Bissaka had entirely outperformed him despite his stellar showing this season under Roberto De Zerbi, with 10 goals and seven assists in 31 games.

 “He is a strong opponent, that is what I thought while I was playing. But there were a lot of situations where his legs stretched at the end or he got the ball down to the back. I think it was a complete defeat,” Mitoma told reporters after the game.

The Japanese winger was also livid with himself for not taking the chances he was able to get and admitted that he had room for improvement.

“I regret that I didn’t score a goal despite having a few chances to do so,” he added. “And it’s difficult to score penalties. So I think I could have done something more before that (penalty shootout). I haven’t played against (Manchester United), but all their players are of high quality individually so we had to be careful on the counter-attacks. But I think the match as a whole went well, but they had qualities at the end. I also need to improve.”

On Wednesday, the Seagulls will play their next game against Nottingham Forest, while United will go to London to play Tottenham in the Premier League.

After Manchester United’s tenuous title aspirations were destroyed with a loss to Arsenal, Roy Keane questioned the competence of four of the team’s stars.

Eddie Nketiah scored his second of the game in the 89th minute to put Arsenal five points clear at the top of the table.

United were without Casemiro for the game at the Emirates which saw Scott McTominay come into the side, while Aaron-Wan Bissaka was playing in place of the injured Diogo Dalot.

McTominay’s inclusion came at the expense of Fred, who had been expected to start after excelling against Manchester City last weekend.

Before the hour mark, Arsenal took the lead thanks to Bukayo Saka, who terrorized Luke Shaw the whole game.

Even though United put up a strong fight in north London, according to Keane, the presence of Shaw, Wan-Bissaka, Fred, and McTominay demonstrated that the team is still “far short” of being a title contender.

‘United weren’t at their best but you think: ‘Can you hang on for a draw?’ Take the point and move on.

‘But it goes back to United, they’ve made progress but at the end of the game I’m looking at Shaw at left-back, there’s questions over him. Wan-Bissaka, Fred is back in midfield, McTominay. It’s like United haven’t moved on from the problems of the past.

‘I’m not just blaming those players because it was a tough game and credit to Arsenal but this is a reality check. I’ve been saying for the last few weeks I still think United are well short.

‘I know they’re missing some important players today but that’s the game, you’re going to be missing players. A squad like Manchester United should be able to deal with it.When the going gets tough in the last 20 minutes you’re looking at the options off the bench and it wasn’t great.

‘For all the money United have spent they’re still well short. We saw that today against an Arsenal side that are flying.’

Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot has revealed he is in talks with the club over a new contract.

The 23-year-Old old’s Trafford contract was set to expire in June, but United recently exercised a 12-month extension clause to keep Dalot at the club, just as they did with Marcus Rashford, Fred, and Luke Shaw.

The player himself has now disclosed that talks are taking place to strike an arrangement that will “benefit” both parties. Mp3bullet recently reported that United seek to negotiate a new long-term contract with Dalot, with the Portuguese international being a major favourite of manager Erik ten Hag.

“We are in a position to say that we are negotiating [my contract] and how both parties will benefit, but it is no secret that I am happy to be here. I love this club, I love to play for this club so we will see how things go,” Dalot told The United Stand YouTube channel.

“Progressively we are in a good direction as a team, for me this is the most important part and hopefully individually I can continue to help the team as I am doing.”

Dalot has ousted Aaron Wan-Bissaka as United’s first-choice right-back and has put in a number of impressive performances this season.

He has spoken positively about the influence of Ten Hag following his arrival as manager, claiming the Dutchman has given him the ‘confidence’ to believe in his own abilities.

The former AC Milan loanee also participated in a press conference for Manchester United fans on Monday. He answered questions from fans before Tuesday’s Carabao Cup quarterfinal match against Charlton Athletic and reaffirmed that the team’s goals under Ten Hag are still as high-scoring as ever.

“My aspirations will always be [that] being at Manchester United you need to have big ambition. You need to win everything, every competition that you are in, but we also know that our reality is that we have to be cautious,“ he said.

“We are making progress, we are in the right direction and [that is] the way that we have to approach, especially this season, because I think we have good positions to win something and, at the end, we want to be with the mindset of, ‘this season, we did everything we could to win this season and playing finals and winning trophies’.”
