Arsenal have completed the signing of Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto on a season-long loan.

Neto joins Arsenal following two successful seasons with Bournemouth, where he made 32 appearances last season. His move to Arsenal became feasible after Bournemouth signed Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea late in the transfer window.

The 35-year-old will serve as a backup to David Raya at the Emirates Stadium. However, he will be ineligible to participate in Arsenal’s Carabao Cup fixtures, having already played for Bournemouth in the competition before their defeat to West Ham on Wednesday.

Neto will be available for FA Cup and UEFA Champions League matches.

Arsenal shifted their focus to Neto after allowing Aaron Ramsdale to move to Southampton. They pursued Neto after failing to secure Espanyol’s Joan Garcia.

Neto is expected to provide support to Raya, who arrived at Arsenal last summer on an initial loan from Brentford and quickly became Mikel Arteta’s preferred choice.

Despite Arteta’s assurances that both goalkeepers would have opportunities, Raya’s arrival displaced Ramsdale as the first-choice keeper. Ramsdale made just 11 appearances in the 2023/24 season, while Raya featured 41 times, including in Arsenal’s Champions League campaign and Premier League title chase.

Arsenal’s David Raya has emphasized that his relationship with teammate Aaron Ramsdale remains “really good,” despite Raya securing the starting goalkeeper position this season.

Arsenal initially signed Raya on loan from Brentford in August, and it’s understood that the club intends to make the deal permanent. After initially being on the bench for three matches before the season’s first international break, Raya has since started every Premier League game he’s been eligible for, as well as five of Arsenal’s six Champions League group stage fixtures.

Raya’s ascent to the starting role has meant Ramsdale, who was voted into the 2022/23 PFA Team of the Year, has seen a reduction in playing time and has been linked with a potential move away in search of regular minutes. Despite the competition for the starting spot, Raya affirms that his relationship with Ramsdale remains strong.

Speaking to Arsenal’s website, Raya said he gets along well with Ramsdale, but ultimately his focus is on helping the club achieve their goals.

“It’s a big thing when another goalie comes to a club,” Raya said. “Aaron had a magnificent season last year so I’m just here to help the team to win the games when the gaffer puts me in.

“My relationship with Aaron is really good. We’re teammates and try to make each other better in every single session. We don’t try to hear what the outside world is saying, just focus on the team.

“I’m enjoying every time I go out there, playing football and doing what I love, especially enjoying every single training session as well. It’s incredible to be part of this football club and hopefully we can fight for the title.

“A club of this level, you cannot drop at any point. We want to fight and try to win as many titles as we can, so it’s very demanding. For me now, experiencing new things, it’s very demanding. The teams in the top six and top 10 are behind us so we have to keep on our toes and try to win every single match.”

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has cautioned Mikel Arteta about his handling of goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, emphasizing that rotating goalkeepers can lead to problems down the line.

“I don’t believe in rotating goalkeepers, it’s a lack of clarity of the hierarchy,” he told beIN Sports.

“On the other hand, when you’re in this position, it happened to me many times, you have a good team and you want to improve it. You look and think ‘what can I improve?’ Maybe the distribution from the back.

“It happened to me with the centre-backs, you want the guy who has better distribution from the back. And then you realise he is less good defensively and his first job is to defend.”

Asked which goalkeeper he would choose for his team, Wenger declined to make a decision but offered his support to Ramsdale.

“Personally I like Ramsdale,” he said. “If I was in his position, I would not give up because I believe he has a chance to come back into the team.

“[Is Ramsdale] better? I don’t know. I just think Ramsdale has made decisive saves in the games last season. They were not happy maybe with his feet.”

Though he has kept five of a possible nine clean sheets, Raya’s tenure as Arsenal’s starting goalkeeper has been uneventful. In some games, he has failed to inspire trust.

We are aware that Ramsdale is content to battle for his future at the Emirates for the time being, but with Chelsea and other teams keeping an eye on things, he could have to reevaluate his options at the conclusion of the year.

In a great article for The Players’ Tribune, the goalie opened up on a variety of personal topics, including the excruciatingly trying period he and his family endured towards the close of the previous year.

Ramsdale said Arteta put his personal life first and he is incredibly grateful to him for that. The 25-year-old returned to Arsenal with the Gunners eager to maintain their title challenge.

Writing for The Players’ Tribune, Ramsdale explained: ‘There are things that go on in our lives that the public has no idea about, and the past year has been an emotional rollercoaster for me and my family.

‘After the high of climbing to the top of the Premier League table and going off to my first World Cup, my wife and I found out that we were expecting our first child. Mikel gave me a few extra days off after the World Cup, so we went on a brief holiday. It was genuinely the happiest time of our lives. And yeah … there’s no easy way to say this, but I feel like it’s important that people know.…

‘On the flight home, my wife had a miscarriage.

‘There’s really no way that I can describe the pain of that six-hour flight back to London, even now. I just want people out there to know that they’re not alone if they’re going through it themselves.

‘When we got back, I didn’t tell many people what happened. Only my family, my teammates, and of course Mikel. He was fantastic about everything. Even in the middle of the title race, with so much pressure on the club, he asked me if I needed some time off to deal with everything. Mikel went above and beyond to make sure me and my family were OK.

‘For me, that’s a manager. We don’t always see eye-to-eye on everything. We have some very florid conversations about football sometimes. But he cares so much about his players, and he forever has my respect for how he handled our grief.’

Ramsdale, who believed that playing football was the greatest way to avoid reflecting on the tragedy, was remarkably back on the field and doing well not long after.

‘Three days later, we were playing Spurs in the derby, and for me that was the only way to get my mind off things,’ he said. ‘Football has always been my escape. I told the manager I wanted to play.

‘It couldn’t have been a better night. We won 2–0 under the floodlights, and our away fans were going absolutely ballistic. If you watch the match back, you can see me beaming at the final kick of the ball.’

Arsenal have announced Aaron Ramsdale has signed a new long-term contract with the club.

The England international joined the Gunners from Sheffield United two years ago, and during his 76 appearances in all competitions for the north London club, he has developed into one of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers.

In April, the Arsenal starting goalie was at the top of his game to deny Mohamed Salah a signature goal that would have given his team a crucial point against Liverpool.

In the closing seconds of a hotly contested encounter on April 9, Ramsdale stretched to jump across his goal line and touch a deflected curling attempt from the Liverpool star barely around the post.

Ramsdale has become the first goalie to win the Castrol Save of the Month award twice. The English goalkeeper also won the award in March after a spectacular save to deny Dango Ouattara what appeared to be a definite goal in Arsenal’s 3-2 triumph against Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium.

Ramsdale is now just the second player to have won the Castrol Save of the Month twice in a single season, joining Nick Pope, who did it in August and January.

After the 2-2 draw against Liverpool in the title race, Mikel Arteta has urged his team to depend on the talent they displayed in the first half of the match.

“I haven’t seen anyone do it [dominate] in this ground this season. They beat every big team here, they played Real Madrid and could have been four up after 20 minutes. They are going to have moments. You need to deal with them and we did. Our goalkeeper had a big part in that.

“We could taken three points. We should do that [play like the first half] for another 15 minutes and then the game would have taken a very different trajectory. We didn’t. We have to take the point.”

At the top of the Premier League standings, Arsenal is currently six points ahead of Manchester City, who still has a game in hand.

Aaron Ramsdale has been named Castrol Save of the Month for March for his outstanding save in Arsenal’s 3-2 win against Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium.

On March 4, in what could turn out to be a game that defines his team’s season, Arsenal’s No. 1 was at his very best.

Ramsdale made a spectacular save to stop Dango Ouattara from scoring after his team was caught off guard by a rapid counterattack from Bournemouth. Ramsdale raced across his box to follow a Dominic Solanke cross and got his body in front of Ouattara’s ensuing side-footed attempt.

The Gunners would go on to complete a dramatic comeback, coming from two goals down to earn all three points with a 97th-minute winner from Reiss Nelson.

That win, and subsequent emphatic victories over Fulham and Crystal Palace, has seen Arsenal open up at an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League table heading into the final ten games of the season.

Ramsdale is the third English goalkeeper to win the Castrol Save of the Month award during 2022/23, with Nick Pope and Jordan Pickford both previously winning the award.

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has revealed his desire to become a Gunners legend and potentially spend the rest of his career in north London.

After a transfer from Sheffield United to Arsenal in 2021 for up to £30 million, Ramsdale endured a rocky start to his Arsenal career despite initially failing to unseat Bernd Leno as the starting goalkeeper.

He didn’t have to wait long for his opportunity, though, as this season he has taken over the team’s number one shirt. His 12 Premier League clean sheets have helped him share the goalkeeper lead and placed him in the running for the Golden Glove as the Gunners also mount a title challenge.

The 24-year-old entered the Emirates Stadium with a long-term contract and intends to stay for many more years, maybe even until he is close to 40.

Ramsdale was one of five Arsenal players awarded on Monday night at the London Football Awards. He won Goalkeeper of the Year, Martin Odegaard, the team’s captain, was named Premier League Player of the Year, and Bukayo Saka beat out William Saliba and Gabriel Martinelli to win Young Player of the Year.
