Nigerian singer Siraheem, the son of billionaire businessman Rasaq Okoya, has announced his decision to step away from music professionally.

The Afrobeats artist shared the news through an open letter posted on his social media page, where he reflected on his time in the industry, the experiences that shaped his career, and the decision to pursue other interests.

Siraheem Announces Professional Exit From Music Industry

Siraheem described his music journey as a rewarding chapter filled with memorable performances, recognition from artists he once looked up to, and moments that made the experience worthwhile. However, he explained that what began as a passion shared with friends gradually became more difficult to balance with his other responsibilities.

According to the singer, his growing commitments have made it increasingly challenging to give music the level of attention and dedication he believes it deserves. Rather than continue without being able to give his best, he has chosen to formally step away from releasing new music.

The decision, however, does not necessarily mean Raheem is closing the door on creativity altogether. He revealed plans to explore other ventures and take on new challenges outside the music industry, suggesting that his creative journey will continue in a different direction.

Interestingly, there may still be one more musical chapter to come. Raheem revealed that he has been working on an album, which he considers some of his strongest material yet. While there are currently no guarantees about its release, he left open the possibility that the project could eventually make its way to listeners.

Raheem began his career as an Afrobeats artist and gradually built recognition through his music and live performances. Outside music, he has also been involved with Eleganza Group, his family’s business, where he serves as an executive director.

For now, Raheem appears ready to turn the page on his professional music career while leaving the future open to whatever comes next. His announcement brings an unexpected pause to his journey as an artiste, but perhaps not a permanent goodbye to music.

With the ceremony scheduled to be held in Canada in October, the race is shaping up to be an interesting one. FOLA currently has the numbers advantage, but with Wizkid, Omah Lay, Asake, Davido, and Mavo all competing across major categories, there is still plenty to play for before the winners are announced.

The Nigerian superstar gave fans a rare glimpse into his creative mindset, explaining that he prefers taking his time with music rather than rushing projects out for the moment. The message quickly caught the attention of fans, many of whom connected it to the anticipation surrounding his next full-length release.

He followed up by revealing that he has been enjoying the process of making the new project and is eager for listeners to finally hear what he has been working on. That update only added more fuel to the growing conversation around his return.

Wizkid also hinted that fans could see him soon, although he stopped short of revealing exactly what that means. Another post, in which he spoke about the thoughts that come to him regularly and suggested that there are things he would rather not disclose yet, added another layer of mystery to the conversation.

The renewed buzz comes as anticipation continues to build around Wizkid’s next studio album, which has previously been reported to carry the title SEXY.

If released as expected, the project would follow his 2024 album Morayo, dedicated to his late mother, as well as his 2026 collaborative EP REAL, Vol. 1 with Asake.

There is still no official release date or complete information about the upcoming album. For now, Wizkid appears to be enjoying the creative process behind the scenes while keeping fans guessing about what comes next.

2Baba announces title of his first album in 6 years

The legendary singer has announced OLDEST YOUNG MAN as the title of his forthcoming project, marking his first album release in six years. The announcement puts an end to a long wait for fans who have been looking forward to another body of work from the iconic performer.

For 2Baba, the project represents another chapter in a career that has stretched across decades and produced some of the most recognisable moments in Nigerian pop and R&B.

The title itself hints at an artist embracing both the experience that comes with age and the youthful energy that has remained part of his identity.

For now, details surrounding the album remain under wraps. The tracklist, guest appearances, and official release date are yet to be revealed, leaving fans with little more than the title to anticipate what is coming.

Still, the announcement alone signals that 2Baba is ready to open a new chapter. With OLDEST YOUNG MAN on the horizon, attention now turns to what the veteran has been cooking after six years away from the album format.

Nigerian singer Portable has once again turned a trending controversy into music, releasing a new track that appears to reference reports surrounding dancer Poco Lee’s alleged arrest in the United Kingdom.

Portable Releases Song Inspired by Reports of Poco Lee’s UK Arrest

In the song, Portable makes a direct reference to the reported incident, using the situation as another opportunity to take a swipe at his former associate.

“Won ti grab Poco, for Obodo oyinbo, Ofi Agidi gba pata lowo oyinbo”

The new release has quickly generated reactions online, particularly because of the complicated history between the two entertainers.

Portable and Poco Lee first became closely associated with the 2021 hit “ZaZoo Zehh,” which also featured Olamide. The song played a major role in introducing Portable to a wider Nigerian audience and helping establish his presence in the mainstream music scene.

Their relationship, however, later became strained. Following the success of the record, Portable publicly accused Poco Lee of taking money and recognition connected to their collaboration, setting off a highly publicized dispute between the two.

Portable has since developed a reputation for quickly turning major events, controversies, and personal experiences into songs, and his latest release appears to follow that same pattern.

However, the claim surrounding Poco Lee’s alleged arrest in the UK has not been independently confirmed by authoritative sources at the time of writing. Details about what reportedly happened, the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident, or whether any charges were filed remain unclear.

For now, Portable’s song has brought renewed attention to the long-running relationship between the singer and Poco Lee while also adding another chapter to their history of public disagreements.

In a recent interview, Blaqbonez explained that he and Odumodu were once on good terms before their relationship became strained after they encountered the same woman in 2023.

According to the rapper, both artists met the woman around June or July of that year and developed an interest in her, with each eventually making an attempt to pursue a relationship.

“Me and Odumodublvck used to be cool, we had cordial relationship then. Sometime in 2023, like June or July, we met a girl at the same place at the same time, we were both interested in the girl and both parties made moves to her.”

Blaqbonez said he later became involved with the woman in a non-exclusive relationship that lasted roughly a year. He explained that the relationship eventually came to an end after she told him she no longer believed it was progressing in the direction she wanted.

The rapper said he later discovered that she had begun dating Odumodu after unexpectedly meeting her at a bar. He claimed that after asking about her relationship status and learning who she was seeing, he decided to completely distance himself from her.

“Days later I ran into her in a bar, and we talked, so I asked her who she was dating, that was when I found out it was Odumodu. I promised her she won’t hear from me again, and we moved on,” he added.

According to Blaqbonez, the situation did not end there. He alleged that Odumodu eventually confronted him over his past relationship with the woman, accusing him of continuing to contact or disturb her.

Blaqbonez said he explained that they had previously been involved but maintained that he had already cut off communication with her and blocked her.

He further recalled a three-way phone conversation involving himself, Odumodu and the woman. According to his account, the woman denied having had a previous relationship with him and also disputed that they had travelled together to Ghana.

Blaqbonez claimed that tensions continued to grow after the incident, eventually turning into repeated online attacks and harassment from Odumodu.

The revelation provides further context to the strained relationship between the two Nigerian rap acts, whose once-friendly association has since developed into a highly publicized feud.

The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) have sparked questions among fans after the newly announced nominations revealed that the Best Afrobeats category will not be part of this year’s ceremony.

2026 MTV VMAs Drop Best Afrobeats Category

The category, which was introduced only three years ago to acknowledge the growing international presence of African music, has disappeared from the 2026 nominations without an immediate explanation from MTV.

Since announcing this year’s nominees, the network has not released an official statement clarifying why the category was removed.

Best Afrobeats made its debut at the VMAs in 2023, at a time when Afrobeats was experiencing a significant surge in global popularity. Rema and Selena Gomez claimed the inaugural award with their international hit “Calm Down.”

The following two editions saw South African star Tyla take control of the category. She won in 2024 with “Water” before securing the award again in 2025 for “Push 2 Start.”

The decision to remove the category comes as Afrobeats continues to enjoy strong international visibility and influence. African artists have still appeared among the 2026 nominees, with Burna Boy earning a Best Collaboration nomination for his work with Shakira, while Tems received recognition in the Best R&B category.

However, the absence of a dedicated Afrobeats award has generated debate about how the VMAs intend to represent the genre going forward, particularly given its growing presence in mainstream global music.

Best Rock Also Removed

Afrobeats is not the only genre-specific category to disappear from this year’s nominations.

MTV has also eliminated the Best Rock category, which has appeared in different forms at the VMAs since 1989. Rock performers will instead compete under the broader Best Alternative classification.

The changes could point towards an effort by MTV to consolidate several genre-specific awards into wider categories, although the network has yet to confirm whether that is the reason behind the restructuring.

For now, the removal of Best Afrobeats has left fans and observers questioning why a category created to reflect the genre’s international rise has been discontinued at a time when African music continues to make significant strides globally.

The four-time Grammy-winning singer has become the first Black African artist to receive the prestigious honour, marking a significant moment not only in her career but also for African music on the global stage.

Kidjo was recognised for her decades of influence across African music, international sounds and cultural advocacy. Throughout her career, she has built a reputation for connecting different musical traditions while using her voice to promote African culture and social causes.

During her acceptance speech, the legendary singer reflected on the enormous role Africa has played in shaping music around the world. She also highlighted how the continent’s contribution to the global soundscape has often gone without the recognition it deserves.

“We Africans just don’t know what we’ve given to the world, and what we continue giving to the world for the music to exist. Without us, there’s no music possible on this planet.”

The new honour adds to an already decorated career that has seen Kidjo work with renowned musicians from different parts of the world while consistently championing African identity and creativity.

Her Hollywood Walk of Fame star therefore carries significance beyond personal recognition. It represents another acknowledgement of the impact African musicians have had on international music and culture.

For Kidjo, whose career has crossed borders and generations, the milestone further strengthens her position as one of Africa’s most celebrated and influential musical ambassadors.

Nigerian social media was thrown into a frenzy on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, after Afrobeats heavyweights Davido and Wande Coal became embroiled in a heated public exchange.

Davido and Wande Coal Beef: How the Feud Started and Escalated

What started with a discussion about an unreleased collaboration quickly moved beyond music, with both singers trading remarks on social media and fans digging into the history surrounding their relationship and the shelved record.

Here is how the disagreement unfolded.

The Beginning: Davido Discusses the Unreleased Feature

The controversy gained momentum after an interview featuring Davido on the Uncut podcast resurfaced online.

During the conversation, the singer spoke about a verse he recorded for Wande Coal’s Come My Way, explaining why the version featuring him never made it to streaming platforms.

Davido said Wande Coal had initially invited him to contribute to the song and that he subsequently recorded what he considered a strong verse. According to his account, the disagreement came when Wande Coal planned to release the original version first and potentially use Davido’s contribution for a later remix.

Davido said he was not interested in that arrangement, which ultimately resulted in the collaboration remaining unreleased.

Wande Coal Responds

Wande Coal soon challenged Davido’s account of what happened.

Taking to X, the veteran singer argued that the song already had an established release schedule before Davido became involved. He questioned why Davido would expect to influence the rollout of a song that was not his.

He wrote:

“Carry song come give you as how? Song wey been get release plan and date!!! Song wey no be your own you wan dictate release plan. That song fkin did well without you on it bruv!!!”

The response transformed what initially appeared to be an old disagreement over music strategy into a much more public confrontation.

“… he brought it to me, but he hadn’t released it. So, I recorded that verse…”

If you ever wondered why the version of Come My Way featuring Davido was never released, this is Davido’s version of the story.

Wande Coal has now reacted – ‘Song wey no be your own, you wan… https://t.co/JJWf4Ph10g pic.twitter.com/atCFyAajS2

From Music Dispute to Personal Exchange

The situation became more heated as both artists moved from discussing the unreleased record to exchanging personal remarks.

Davido responded to Wande Coal with the post, “No vex Mr Little”, appearing to make reference to the singer’s physical stature.

Wande Coal replied with another familiar online taunt directed at Davido, writing, “No vex too Mr. Toto beggar”.

At that point, the disagreement had clearly shifted beyond the original conversation about a song and into a direct social media clash between two established Nigerian artistes.

Davido Shares WhatsApp Screenshot

As the back-and-forth continued to attract attention, Davido returned to the matter during another interview segment, accusing Wande Coal of behaving immaturely and suggesting that the singer had been trying to get in touch with him privately.

Davido subsequently shared what he presented as evidence of those attempts.

The screenshot showed a WhatsApp exchange dated July 22 involving a mutual contact. The message read:

“Baddest Wande Coal said he wants your number can I give him?”

Davido appeared to use the exchange to support his position that Wande Coal had attempted to contact him despite the public disagreement over the song.

Davido said Wande Coal has been trying to get his attention and even asked for his number two weeks ago, but he told them not to give it to him…He said Wande was acting like a baby. Then the reporter asked him about Wizkid… wait for Davido’s reaction 😂 pic.twitter.com/r6sxkIVRjL

— Cleverly 💐 (@Cleverlydey4u) August 18, 2026

What Happens Next?

Neither Davido nor Wande Coal has publicly apologised or indicated that the dispute has been resolved.

The unexpected clash has generated widespread reactions from fans and music observers while also bringing renewed attention to questions around collaborations, release plans, creative ownership, and the often complicated relationships between major figures in Nigeria’s music industry.

For now, what began as a disagreement over an unreleased verse has developed into one of the most talked-about celebrity exchanges on Nigerian social media.

The singer took to X again, challenging his former label boss to address the accusations directly rather than allowing the matter to fade from public attention.

Shallipopi maintained that he was willing to have the conversation openly and wanted the issues surrounding his earnings and other concerns properly addressed.

In one of his posts, the singer called on Dapper to confront the matter, arguing that repeated occurrences should not be dismissed as isolated incidents.

“Once it’s a mistake. Two times is a coincidence. Three times its a pattern. Dapper, come outside right now.”

Once it’s a mistake

Dapper come outside right now

— Shallipopi (@plutomaniapopi) August 17, 2026

Shallipopi followed up with another strongly worded message, stressing that he was determined to see the dispute through to its conclusion.

“I would rather d!e than allow this case to d!e down. Come out, let’s talk face to face.”

For this case to die make I just die bro

— Shallipopi (@plutomaniapopi) August 17, 2026

His latest comments come after Dapper recently responded to allegations raised by Shallipopi, Seyi Vibez, and other former artists associated with him.

Shallipopi also claimed that he had provided evidence connected to the dispute to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), indicating that he wants the allegations subjected to formal investigation rather than remaining a subject of social media exchanges.

The singer further suggested that his situation was not an isolated case, alleging that several other artists had experienced similar unresolved issues with the executive. According to Shallipopi, close to 10 artists have raised concerns relating to their dealings with Dapper.

He also alleged that Dapper had avoided direct communication with him since 2024, claiming that previous efforts to settle the matter privately had failed to produce a resolution.

This dapper guy still come online come lie🤣
😂 u come defend ke, dapper we are almost 10 artist now saying similar stuff, please pay your lawyers well cause this war u go swim for gutter

— Shallipopi (@plutomaniapopi) August 16, 2026

Dapper boys dey find u🙏 come outside make we talk face to face make we appear for EFCC make we appear for court since 2024 u rip me I have not set my eyes on u, u have been running, running and running, hiding behind your keyboard and all the stolen money, I’m not a pussy boy, I…

— Shallipopi (@plutomaniapopi) August 17, 2026

Dapper, however, has maintained that he has nothing to conceal and that records concerning the allegations are already in the hands of the relevant authorities.

“I have nothing to hide. The records exist. The authorities have them. Let the process establish the truth.”

The executive has also rejected claims made by his former artists, accusing them of presenting what he described as false narratives while insisting that those who left his label did so voluntarily.

With both sides maintaining their positions, the dispute now appears to be moving beyond social media exchanges, with attention turning to the evidence and any formal proceedings that may ultimately establish what transpired.
